The door knocking and
sign placing has begun,
which means it's election
time and this year the politi-
cal expedition is beginning
earlier than expected.
On October 19, the 42nd
Canada Federal Election
launches and Huron -Bruce
NDP candidate Gerard Creces
wants to "take the power back."
Creces said "Harper's late
election call" is what he refers
to as "staying the course and
other tax payers are going to
be footing the bill."
"What Harper did essen-
tially is doubled the cost for the
taxpayers who are not donors."
Prime Minister Stephen
Harper started the political
competition a month sooner
than most predicted, which
Creces said is inconsiderate
when it comes to the party
volunteers.

freely of their time, if they go
to work a month earlier,
that's a lot especially when
these people have families."
This is somewhat frustrat-
ing for Creces as he said this
is also going to cause a
dilemma with voting signs in
front of homes, farms and
businesses.
"We want to be responsi-
ble with it, not just vomit
plastic on their roadsides
right from day one," Creces
said. "We want to give these
people a chance to enjoy
some summer."
While potential voters are
appreciating the warm season,
candidates must move door-
to-door and place -to -place.
Creces has been up and
down roads jumpstarting the
campaign "seeing as many
people as possible."
He believes Huron -Bruce
has been underrepresented
for a long time, something, if
elected, he vows to change.
"I'm just trying to make
the county a place where we
don't have poverty crippling
seniors and deterring young
people and young families
from returning here or mov-
ing here in the first place,"
Creces said.
The former local journal-
ist, who was born in Exeter,
said rural poverty is the main
purpose for devoting his life
to being a politician.
"It's astounding how many
people are using food banks,
because they just don't have
enough money or even the
employment to get ahead,"
Creces said.
Located on Main Street is
the Seaforth and District
Food Bank which provides a
five-day supply once a
month, with such items as
baked goods, fruits, vegeta-
bles, frozen meats and other
food necessities.
"Nobody likes going to a
food bank, we have such a
drastic problem that we have
to start making some
changes now rather than
continue to ignore rural
Ontario for the sake of suck-
ing up to multinational
cooperation like the Trans -
Pacific Partnership does,"
Creces said.
He will be going head-to-
head against Green Party's
Jutta Splettstoesser, Allan
Thompson from Liberal Party
and current Huron -Bruce
Conservative MP Ben Lobb.
