According to Phillips the alert call went out three times in Sea - forth and most of the dangers involved tree branches and fall- ing hydro lines. He said the appearance of the storm was "very dangerous looking and there was a chance of a tornado." One of the most powerful tor- nados Ontario has seen in almost 20 years destroyed the town of Goderich in August 2011, killing a man and injuring 37 people. It was believed to have clocked in up to 300 km/h winds and con- sidered to be an F2 to F3 tornado. "People learn from past experi- ences and I was impressed," said Phillips. He added when a storm does come, residents should at all times stay enclosed. "Normal people are curious and they're all out driving around and sometimes that can be more dan- gerous," said Phillips. "There are tree limbs that are weak, if you're driving they could land on your vehicle and you are on the road blocking emergency vehicles trying to get to the scene." Don Eaton of Egmondville, which is the area that took the brunt of the storm, said he remained in the house during the whole ordeal, but his 2010 Mercury Grand Marquis still felt the wrath of a weak tree limb. "My neighbour came to see if we were alright, I was alright, but the car wasn't," said Eaton. If the neighbour did not inform Eaton about the car he said he would not have known since he did not hear anything during the storm. Currently Eaton is waiting for confirmation to see if his insurance company will consider the Mercury a write-off. In the meantime he will be renting a vehicle until he hears otherwise. If you are ever in danger or are speculating that a serious storm is in the area, go to weather.gc.ca website to find out all the details. "Use common sense by protect- ing yourself in a good secure build- ing and don't go out venturing," said Phillips. EDIRCTORY JflLRC'H You are invited to attend these area churches ST.
