Thanks to the great passing and communication out on the field, the U15 Boys defeated Goderich 4-3 on July 29. The game was the first of the playoffs for the team and was held in Blyth. We were tied 1-1 and then 2-2 and then 3-3 but we were able to score that last goal and hold out for the win 4-3. Goals were scored by Liam Campbell (2), Adam Nolan, and Jared McCarthy, with assists going to Adam Nolan (2), Bobby McLachlan (2), Matt Beuerman, and Quinn Driscoll. U15 Girls ---Silver Medal Finalists Game One of the Playoffs- -Lucknow fought a hard bat- tle, but St.Columban came out on top. Game in Goder- ich on July 27. In the first game of playoff action, St.Columban's U 15 girls came up against the last place contenders, Lucknow. St.Columban's, Claire Horan netted an early goal but this didn't dampen the spirits of the Lucknow squad who put St.Columban's goaltender, Nicki Van Bakel, to the test over and over again. St.Columban played hard enough to prevent Lucknow from scoring, allowing a 1-0 victory. The second playoff game was held on July 28 in Goderich. The temperature was a factor in tonight's game, which resulted in a game of cat and mouse. Nicki Van Bakel, St. Colum - ban's keeper, scored the opening goal on a penalty shot mid way through the first half. Sarah Van Bakel added a second goal to allow St.Columban a two goal lead at half time. Maddie McKel- lar was able to poke a third shot in to close out the game. Very effective positional play and great give -and -go pass- ing resulted in a 3-0 victory over Wingham. Lots of "give and go" and talk amongst each other on the field allowed the St. Columban U 15 girls a 4-1 win in their final game of Round Robin play against the host Goderich team on August 3rd. Khloee Eisler, Claire Horan, Emma Flana- gan, and Maddie McKellar all found the back of the opponent's net with lots of assistance from the entire team. Goderich did get one past the St. Columban keeper, but it wasn't enough. In Semi final -play, St Columban came up against Blyth August 5, 2015. Blyth opened the scoring and added a second shot in the second half to pull into the lead. Instead of getting them down, this fired up St Columban squad. Tight defense by Hilary Feeney, Natasha Klaver, Bre- anna McCarthy, Chloe Rocher, Amber Rock, and Kristen Behn shut Blyth down. Natasha Klaver scored St.Columban's first goal on a penalty shot. Emma Flana- gan quickly tipped in a sec- ond shot to tie it up. The game ended in a 2-2 tie forc- ing sudden death overtime. The evenly matched teams used the first 10 minutes with no goal. Finally Khloe Eisler scored off a fantastic cross pass from Rachel Klaver to finish the game off 3-2. In the Final game against Seaforth on Thursday, August 6th in Goderich, the St.Columban U 15 girls fought hard in the end, but Seaforth came away with the win 2-1. To quote their coach, Frank Flanagan, "Thanks for a great season, girls. It was a lot of fun and you made my job easy." Scoreboard Seaforth Shuffleboard August 5. Men's high: Arnold Ram- sey 4, Cor DeCorte, Jim Davis, Harvey Norton and Erich Mat- zold 3 wins. Women's high: Mae Schilbe, Catherine DeCorte, Kathie Tip - pelt 3 wins; Eleanor Mahoney, Grace Cor- bett and Joyce Matzold 2 wins.
