Finalists
Game One of the Playoffs-
-Lucknow fought a hard bat-
tle, but St.Columban came
out on top. Game in Goder-
ich on July 27. In the first
game of playoff action,
St.Columban's U 15 girls
came up against the last
place contenders, Lucknow.
St.Columban's, Claire Horan
netted an early goal but this
didn't dampen the spirits of
the Lucknow squad who put
St.Columban's goaltender,
Nicki Van Bakel, to the test
over and over again.
St.Columban played hard
enough to prevent Lucknow
from scoring, allowing a 1-0
victory.
The second playoff game
was held on July 28 in
Goderich. The temperature
was a factor in tonight's
game, which resulted in a
game of cat and mouse.
Nicki Van Bakel, St. Colum -
ban's keeper, scored the
opening goal on a penalty
shot mid way through the
first half. Sarah Van Bakel
added a second goal to allow
St.Columban a two goal lead
at half time. Maddie McKel-
lar was able to poke a third
shot in to close out the game.
Very effective positional play
and great give -and -go pass-
ing resulted in a 3-0 victory
over Wingham.
Lots of "give and go" and
talk amongst each other on
the field allowed the St.
Columban U 15 girls a 4-1
win in their final game of
Round Robin play against
the host Goderich team on
August 3rd. Khloee Eisler,
Claire Horan, Emma Flana-
gan, and Maddie McKellar
all found the back of the
opponent's net with lots of
assistance from the entire
team. Goderich did get one
past the St. Columban
keeper, but it wasn't
enough.
In Semi final -play, St
Columban came up against
Blyth August 5, 2015.
Blyth opened the scoring
and added a second shot in
the second half to pull into
the lead. Instead of getting
them down, this fired up St
Columban squad.
Tight defense by Hilary
Feeney, Natasha Klaver, Bre-
anna McCarthy, Chloe
Rocher, Amber Rock, and
Kristen Behn shut Blyth
down.
Natasha Klaver scored
St.Columban's first goal on a
penalty shot. Emma Flana-
gan quickly tipped in a sec-
ond shot to tie it up. The
game ended in a 2-2 tie forc-
ing sudden death overtime.
The evenly matched teams
used the first 10 minutes
with no goal. Finally Khloe
Eisler scored off a fantastic
cross pass from Rachel
Klaver to finish the game off
3-2.
In the Final game against
Seaforth on Thursday,
August 6th in Goderich, the
St.Columban U 15 girls
fought hard in the end, but
Seaforth came away with the
win 2-1. To quote their
coach, Frank Flanagan,
"Thanks for a great season,
girls. It was a lot of fun and
you made my job easy."
