Michele Hodgert Special to the Expositor The Exeter/Seaforth U19A Ringette have just completed the season of a life time win- ning the top prize of "A” Ringette, the Eastern Cana- dian Ringette Championship winning 7-2 over PEI. The team represented Ontario as "Team 0" and included a trip to Moncton, New Brunswick for the competition. In Round Robin play team Ontario fin- ished undefeated with 5-0 and earned a bye to the final. The Team 0 arrived in Moncton, New Brunswick early Wednesday and spent the day touring the local HYDRANT/ BLOW -OFF FLUSHING NOTICE Hydrant and Blow -off flushing will take place through the Day in: ➢ VANASTRA & BRUCEFIELD during the week of May 4th, 2015 ➢ SEAFORTH & EGMONDVILLE during the weeks of May 11th, May 18th and May 25th, 2015. Thursday was opening ceremonies later the play started Game 1 Nova Scotia the first team to meet the bright red Team O . The locals had no mercy knowing that they needed a 7 goal spread if it was possi- ble and dominated winning 8-0. Team 0 started the charge five minutes in and didn't look back. The first half action saw Avery Wedow netting 2, while Amanda Hodgert and Emily Neu - brand each got singles. Sec- ond half had Wedow with her game on and got three more and Hodgert added the final one. Amanda Verbeke 2, Claire Rocher, Kim Alcock 4, Lindsay Govers 3, Amy Alcock, Claire Hesselwood, Neubrand all had assists. Kyrstin Krainz recorded her first shutout of the tourna- ment with 15 saves. Game 2 Team 0 again dominated the physical game against Quebec 2 winning 9-1. Scor- ing came from Hailey Wiet- ersen, Govers, Wedow 2, Ver- beke 2, Neubrand, Hodgert, Rocher. Assisting were Hodg- ert 3, Wedow 5, Kim Alcock 2, Verbeke 3, Rocher, Govers, and Jessie Hennessy. Game 3 This was an unexpected 9-0 win over Quebec 1. Krainz made 11 save for the shutout. Goal were scored by Govers, Wedow 2, Neubrand 3, Verbeke 2, and Wietersen. Help with the scoring Amy Alcock 4, Wedow 3, Verbeke, Hennessy, and Govers. Game Both fast paced and a challenge, the 5-1 New Brunswick game was a great test. Amy Alcock was suc- cessful on 2 shoots, Verbeke, Hodgert, Neubrand each added singles. Helpers came from Wedow, Rocher, Neu - brand 2, Wietersen, Govers, Verbeke, and Hodgert. Krainz made 22 saves. Game 5 This game had Hodgert netting 2 early with Wedow and Verbeke assisting. Rocher, Wedow, and Neu - brand each added one before the ended of the first with Team 0 up 5-2. The second found the locals on the defence most of the time with the fast skating PEI team try- ing everything to break the defence. Krainz made 25 saves for the 5-4 win. Championship Final Team 0 would learn after the semi final that it would PEI in the final with them. The game started very similar to the round robin match up in Game 5, Hodgert netted the first two of the game with Neubrand, Rocher, Wedow, and Amy Alcock getting assists. PEI added one to end the half 2-1. Amy Alcock scored the next 2 goals with Hodgert, Verbeke, Rocher, and Govers setting up the plays. Again PEI jump back in the game making it 4-2 with 11 minutes to go. The lead was never comfortable know- ing the speed and skill of the PEI players. The game con- tinued to be physical and Team 0 capitalized on a cou- ple power plays. Wedow scored with Hodgert and Ver- beke assisting on a two-man advantage. Amy Alcock and Govers set Hodgert up for her third of the game and Rocher slammed the Door on PEI on a great Wedow pass. As the clock ran the final minute the fans start to cheer. This team finishes the 2015 season with 59 wins 5 losses and 3 ties. They won the U19A provincial title, and all 4 Tournaments they played in.
