Welcome to April. At Cavan United Church on Palm Sunday the Sacra- ment of Holy Communion was observed. The choir sang "Long Ago and Far Away:' Minister Mary Fletch- er's message was titled "Jesus Our Champion." The children at the Palm Sunday service paraded up and down the church aisles waving palm branches dur- ing the singing of the first hymn. For Mary's' message she talked about the prophesy of Zachariah coming true. The coming of the Messiah - Jesus riding into Jerusalem on a donkey. Why a donkey? Jesus was a man of peace and a donkey signifies peace and gentleness. Several area residents travelled to Cornwall March 27-29 to attend and take part in the Ontario Plowmen's Association annual meeting. Don and Maja Dodds attended the Monsanto Vol- unteer Recognition Lunch- eon at the 4-H Ontario Annual Meeting in Waterloo. Don was recognized for 55 years of volunteer service as a 4-H leader. The entrance is sheltered by a covered porch. Through the front door, flanked by sidelights, is the foyer, with a coat closet on the left and a den on the right. The hallway leads past a powder room and through an archway to the open living -dining area at the heart of the home. The great room's gas fireplace will make this room especially comfortable during the cooler months, and a covered deck — reached via sliding doors from the dining room — will provide the ideal location for the barbecue. The kitchen is separated from the dining room and great room by a work island with a raised eating bar. A large pantry will provide always -welcome storage, and the U-shaped counter configuration will save steps for the cook. A U-shaped stairway leads to the unfinished basement, included in the plans, and to the second floor, where the second and third bedrooms, plus a loft area, three-piece bath and linen cupboard surround a railed area that is open to the great room below. The third bedroom includes a walk-in closet, and both bedrooms feature an extra -deep sill. Exterior finishes include wood shingles in the gables, along with old-fashioned shutters at the upstairs windows, as well as at a vent over the garage. Stone -based pilasters, decorative woodwork and partly mullioned windows complete the classic look. This home measures 44 feet wide and 55 feet deep, for a total of 1,575 square feet, excluding the unfinished basement.
