Huron Heritage Fund Deadline Approaches
May 1 marks
next deadline
for submissions
May 1 is the next deadline
for individuals and organiza-
tions to submit applications
for the Huron Heritage Fund.
Established in 2007, the
purpose of the Huron Heritage
Fund is to encourage the pres-
ervation of heritage assets and
activities of heritage impor-
tance to the County of Huron
and its residents.
Many initiatives from
throughout Huron County
have been supported by the
Huron Heritage Fund since
its inception. In recent years,
projects have included sup-
port for Goderich Little The-
atre's production of The
Great Storm, exhibit
enhancement funds for the
North Huron Museum as
well as a an initiative by the
Huron Historical Society to
honour Jennie Smillie
through a plaque in the Dr.
Jennie Smillie Parkette, in
the community of Hensall.
"The County will contrib-
ute up to 50% of the costs of a
project to a maximum of
$5,000," according to
Meighan Wark, Director of
Cultural Services. This invest-
ment leverages other groups
or individuals to invest in
Huron County's heritage also.
Projects will assist in the
preservation and restoration
of heritage landmarks, his-
toric buildings, and objects of
historical significance not
owned by the County of
Huron. Heritage publications
and events also qualify for
support under this program.
More information about
the application process can
be found on the County's
web site at: huroncounty.ca/
museum/huronheritage-
fund.php
Brochures are also availa-
ble at all branches of the
Huron County Library.

Specialist with Ausable
Bayfield Conservation, was
the guest speaker for the
meeting. Ian had a very
interesting presentation on
trees and wildflowers and
their affect on the environ-
ment. Many wildflowers
attract insects, which in
turn help to reseed plants.
He explained the different
diseases and insects that
are currently infecting trees
and how natural areas are
needed to provide homes
for wildlife.
