Francis Fishleigh, George Kidd, William C. Kidd, John
Rogers, Sr., a native of England, his son, Thomas -Rogers,
another son, John Rogers, Jr., and a granddaughter's hus-
band, - Elmore Kleinfeldt, have been the owners of Lot 9.
Francis Fishleigh, who owned it from 1855, was a Mitchell
resident. Fishleigh and Babb were in partnership in one of
the 'first stores in Mitchell. li'rancis.. who ownedthis lot,
married Jane Babb. -
George Kidd, the next owner of Lot 9,.Was a school trus-
tee When Union: School No. 1, near here, was organized in
the 1850's, He. was a native of Wykem, Yorkshire, England,
and in 1829 -married' Hannah Clayton, of Farndale, York-
shire, England: After crossing. the ocean, they first settled
at Utica, in New York. State. Here their eldest child, Martha,,
was born. From there they` moved to a. farm near. Toronto,
and later lived on one near Orono; in Durham County, before,
they came to Hibbert. In the Kidd family' were: Martha (Mrs:
John Tuer),. -whose grandsons now run the Royston Dairy
at "Mitchell;' John and ,petsy, who died young in :Durham'
County; William ...Chester, . who : married Jennefer. Hoskin;
George Clayton; whose wife was , the former: Hannah Eliza
Levy ;John Foster, who married Sarah J. Hornibroolt; Mary
(Mrs. William Greenwood) ; Isaac,' who died when 18 years
of age of typhoid fever; Elizabeth (Mrs-, William,.Dowling) ;

In 1937 another`-uarter of an. acre was bought by; Zion
United Church. That same year the -Old church was wrecked,

reasonable• amount of knowledge, The study, of Dempsey's,
Handbook for Magistrates -price. $1,00 -was . his prepara-
tion for ruling in the court. of law, for an offence of drunk
enness or.:as"sault>in the'neighborhood. This vas Pot a lucra-
tive position to hold If a -magistrate did no -work- he got no
pay. If.,he did hear and.deternaine a case the fee he' was
supposed to receive, was 50 --gents. 'There•is no.record:of how
