Mrs. William F. Bell was hos-
tess at her home for the Kip -
pen East Women's Institute
Christmas meeting, held Wed-
nesday afternoon with pre -age
school children special guests
for the occasion. Mrs. James
Drummond presided over the
meeting.
Roll call„• "111y first Christmas
gift I remember” was answer-
ed by the members, and a group
composed of Mrs. Howard Fink-
beiner, Mrs. Verne Alderdice,
Mrs. Ross Sararas, Mrs. Ernie
Whitehouse, Mrs. Ken McKay,
Mrs. Robert Bell and Mrs.
Drummond presented a Christ-
mas skit. Several members who
had taken the course, "Focus
on Finishes," modelled dresses
they had made, and Mrs. Stew-
art Pepper and Mrs. Alex Mc-
Gregor, leaders of the project,
were presented gifts from the
sewing rippers.
KIPPEN
Several cases of flu, measles,
mumps and chickenpox are re-
ported in the surrounding area.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Stan -
lake, Exeter, vished Sunday
with Mr. Robert Thomson.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Dickert
visited Sunday with relatives
in Harriston.
Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Mellis
attended the annual supper and
Christmas concert Monday eve-
ning at Huronview, Clinton.
Mrs. Leonard Lovell is a pa-
tient in St. Joseph's Hospital,
London. Her friends and neigh-
bors wish her a speedy recov-
ery.

mas cake and the winner was
Mrs. Ross Sararas. Proceeds
from the sale, amounting to
$10, will be forwarded to the
Children's Aid at Goderich.

Christmas story.
Mrs. William Kyle was co -
hostess. Christmas refreshments
were served. In charge of treats

Mr., Mrs. Treble
Wed 50 Years
Mr. and Mrs. Frank W.
Treble, of Solsgirth, Manitoba,
will celebrate their fiftieth wed-
ding anniversary on Tuesday,
Desember 26, 1961. Mrs. Trble
was formerly Isabella May Ches-
ney, of Hensall, Ont., and Frank
W. Treble was from Exeter,
On.t They were married in Sea -
forth, and moved to Manitoba
where they have since resided.
FUNERALS
MRS. JOE McMANN
The death occurred in Ben-
senville, Illinois, on Nov. 27,
1961, of Mrs. Mabel McMann,
beloved wife of Joe McMann,
formerly of Seaforth, Ont. She
is survived by her husband; one
sister, Ellen Kasen, and two
brothers, Harry and George
Wellek.
The funeral mass was sung
in St. Alexis' Roman Catholic
Church by Monsignor Kau•th.,
Burial was in St. Joseph's ceme-
tery, River Grove, Ill. Funeral
arrangements were in charge
of Gael's Funeral Home, Ben-
senville, Ill.
Funeral of Miss Taylor
Public funeral services for
Miss Jennie Gordon Taylor, of
Hensall, who died suddenly at
her home Friday afternoon,
were held from the Bonthron
Funeral Chapel on Monday,
conducted by Rev. Ross D. Mac-
Donald. Burial was in Hensall
Union Cemetery. Born in Hay
Township, she had been a resi-
dent of the village for many
years, and was a member of
Carmel Presbyterian Church.
Surviving are one brother, Or-
ville Taylor, RR 1, Exeter, and
two sisters, Mrs, Rex Dick, RR
1, Hensall, and Mrs. William
Harvey, of Norwich.
Chiselhurst WA
Has Meeting
The Christmas meeting of the
Women's Missionary Society
and Women's Association of
Chiselhurst United Church was
held Tuesday afternoon, with
the 'schoolroom very attractively
decorated in Christmas motif.
Presiding for the WA was Pres-
ident Mrs. A. Ross, while Mrs.
Alvin Cole conducted the wor-
ship period. Motions were pass-
ed to send $25 to the M & M
and $25 to the Capital Fund.
Mrs. Jack Brintnell and Mrs.
Percy Harris were appointed a
committee to decorate the
church for Christmas Sunday.
President Mrs. Russell Brock
took the chair for the WMS and
gave a Christmas poem, Mrs.
Clarence Coleman gave the mis-
sionary prayer, and Mrs. Sim
Roobol showed ,lovely colored
slides and gave, a commentary
of her trip to Holland this sum-
mer. She was assisted by her
daughter, Mrs. Don Dodds, of
Seaforth. Refreshments were
served.
Twenty-five members a n d
guests attended the meeting.
Hostesses were Mrs. Earl Kins-
man and Mrs. T, Brintnell.

Groups Hold

A large congregation gather-
ed in the auditorium of Duff's
United Church Sunday evening,
Dec. 17, to attend a vesper ser-
vice presented by Young People
and CGIT members, previously
prepared in co-operation with
leader Mrs. McCreath, and as-
sistant, Miss Shirley Bolger.
Decorative lighting and Christ-
mas spruce added greatly to
the Christmas atmosphere of
the service.
Ruth Ritchie led the worship,
assisted by a choir of young
people. Ron Uhler read the
story, with Reid Hackwell, Jer-
ry Achilles and Roy William-
son in charge of the offering.
A social hour of carol singing
and refreshments followed.
The morning service, in
charge of Rev, Higginbotham,
supported by the regular choir,
was aided by the thoughtful
decorative preparation of these
young people, and here again
the people of Walton and vi-
cinity, with all members of
families, will be welcomed Sun-
day, Dec. 24, at 11 a.m„ to the
regular Christmas service.
Christmas music is being pre-
pared by the choir.
ZION
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Barker and
Mrs. Lawrence Hannon spent
Thursday in London.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Gordon,
Donna and Barry and Mrs. Ross
Murdie called on Mrs. Mary
Malcolm Saturday evening on
their way home from London
after visiting Mr. Ross Murdie
in Victoria Hospital. We are
pleased to report he is improv-
ing .a little.
Mrs. Norman Bushfielci and
Mrs. Lawrence Hannon played
Santa Claus on Saturday to the
shut-in of Zion WA, with a
lovely plant.
Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Kirk-
ham, formerly Shirley Brown,
were presented with two up-
holstered chairs and a table
lamp by neighbors and friends
of the community.
We are sorry to report Mrs.
Jack Balfour is very ill in Strat-
ford Hospital. Her neighbors
all wish her a speedy recovery.
LEGION CORNER

Well, Comrades and friends,
Christmas is just around the
corner and the weatherman
promises a good amount of
snow, which always adds some-
thing to the Christmas scene.

The hockey season for the
youngsters got underway last
Saturday morning and will con-
tinue through the coming weeks
until we send a team to the
Young Canada Hockey Cham-
pionships in the spring.
* * *
The annual Christmas con-
cert for the kids was held last
Sunday and the auditorium was
just packed. The Ladies' Aux-
iliary had organized a fine pro-
gram, which was most enjoy-
able, and after the program
Santa Claus handed out a bag
of candy and a cane to each of
the children. There was also
coffee and doughnuts for ev-
erybody, the doughnuts being
donated,by .. `Smitty", the bak-
er; so al in all it was a most
pleasant time, thanks to the
Legion president and the La-
dies' Auxiliary.

The Legion are holding their
annual Christmas dance on Box-
ing Night. This is always one
of the highlights of the winter
social season,
