We finished our exams last
Thursday afternoon. Everyone
will have a brief rest before
report card day is due. When
the day shall finally arrive,
some may be happy, others sad.

With Christmas only a few
weeks away, everyone is talk-
ing about what they want and
what they are going to do dur-
ing the Christmas holidays.
* *
During the last month and a
half we have been having pub-
lic speaking speeches during
the assembly. The two top win-
ners were Mary Lou Coyne and
Martha Schoonderwoerd.

Last Friday the awards of
the magazine campaign came.
They were awarded to the top
students who sold the most
subscriptions.

Everyone is enjoying the new
games and equipment we got

"r The sixth meeting of the Dub-
lin Colleens was held on Dec.
9, at the home of Mrs: Fergus
Stapleton. The meeting was op-
ened with thepledge, and then
the treasut r's- and secretary's
reports were gheard. The roll
call was given with all members
present. Mrs. Friend told about
menu planning and about round
meat. Mrs. Butters made a meat
loaf. The home assignment was
given and lunch served.
SAILORS' STARS
Because it helped guide mar-
iners across the seas, Ursa Min-
or is one of the best-known of
all constellations. It is referred
to by names that would be much
more familiar to the star -gaz-
ing sailor, namely Little Bear
or Little Dipper.
There have been many devic-
es developed to record time.
A hemp rope was knotted in
regular spaces and lighted at
the bottom to smolder away
slowly and regularly, to record
the passage of time, knot by
knot, as we tell it today, hour
by hour.

nual Christmas concert at SS
No. 9, McKillop, on Friday
night. Teacher of the school is

solo, Maryann Wildfong; reci-

Speaker Warns
The monthly dinner meeting
of the Chamber of Commerce
was held in the club room of
the hall with E. C. Nokes, re-
presenting both the Canadian
and Ontario Chamber of Com-
merce, who spoke on commun-
ity betterment, and cautioned
the members not to let their
enthusiasm wane after the hall
is completed and paid for. An-
other field of community bet-
terment, he pointed out, is civic
affairs, We must be on our
guard that not too much power
be given to government bodies
and large corporations, for in
so doing we are losing our say
in our affairs. Frank Eickmeir
thanked the speaker on behalf
of the members.
President Mervin Deitz call-
ed for the minutes to be read,
which were adopted. The ceil-
ing and wall of the basement
are to be finished. A New
Year's Eve dance was planned.
A social evening for members
and their wives is to be held
on the third Thursday of every
month. The financial report re-
vealed about $960 profit on the
bingo and draw in November.
A $25 donation was gratefully
received.
Mr. and Mrs. Ross Leonhardt
and Kathy spent the weekend
with Mr. Lorraine Rose at
Cooksville.
Mr. Kenneth Elligsen is con-
fined to Stratford Hospital.
Mr. and Mrs. Don Wolfe, ,of
London, with Mr. alttI Mrs. La-
vern Wolfe on Sunday.
Sgt. Dan Manley visiting with
his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wm.
Manley, Walton. He has just
returned from Egypt and call-
ed at the home of Mr. and Mrs.
Lavern Wolfe and Mrs. Watson.
He had met Cpl. Watson in
Egypt.
Warren Sholdice, of Bramp-
ton, and Roger Sholdice visited
with Mr. and Mrs. Gary Shol-
dice in London over the week-
end, and also visited with
Wayne Beuermann in London.
Church Women Meet
The monthly meeting of the
United Lutheran Church Wo-
men of St. Peter's Lutheran
Church was held with a good
attendance. Mrs. Reuben Buuck,
Mrs. Irvin Miller, Mrs. Lena
Bennewies, Mrs. Reuben Rapien
and Mrs. George Rock were on
devotions and topic. They chose
for it "The Christmas Story."
Mrs. Rock read a poem, "God
First."
Mrs. M. Beuermann, presi-
dent, presided for the business.
Mrs. R. Sholdice had charge of
the roll call which was answer-
ed with a Christmas carol, and
gave the treasurer's report.
Mrs. George Rock read the sec-
retary's repott. Flowers are be-
ing bought by this group for
the altar at Christmas. Some
shut-ins will be remembered
with gifts. Mission money was
reported by Mrs. Harold Rock
and thankoffering boxes were
received. Quilt tops will be
donated to he quilted in the
near future for the girls' dormi-
tory at Waterloo College.
Birthdays were reported by
Mrs. Louise Bennewies, Mrs.
George Mogk and Mrs. R. Shol-
dice. A Christmas carol was
sung in their honor. A lunch
was served by Mrs. Orland
Rohrer, Mrs. Ed. Scherbarth,
Mrs. Edwin Seherbarth, Mrs. R.
Sholdice, Mrs. Minnie Voch and
Mrs. Lavern Wolfe.
Santa comes to Dublin on Sat-
urday! An invitation extended
by the village trustees, Dublin
businessmen and the Dublin
an District Chamber of Com-
merce has been accepted and
:arrangements for the visit are
o ompleted, according to village
officials.
Santa will receive area chil-
dren from a special stage be-
ing erected in front of the vil-
lage Christmas tree on the
Main Street. He is expected at
2:00 o'clock, when he will be-
gin distributing gifts to area
children.
Dublin has made special pre-
parations for Christmas this
year. In addition to erecting a
large Christmas tree, decorative
lights shine along the Main
Street. Many houses, too, in
the village are being decorat-
ed for the holiday.

Mr. Dalton Balfour, who re-
cently sold his farm, had a very
successful sale on Saturday.
Mrs. Mabel Higgerson and
daughter, Mrs. Kenneth Elligson
and Terry visited her aunt, Mrs.
Mary Malcolm, on Saturday.
Mr. Kenneth Burchill spent
the weekend with his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Jack Burchill.
Mr. and Mrs. Morley Lannin
and Mrs. Harold Thiel visited
Miss Lettie Lannin in Detroit
recently and also called on Mr.
and Mrs. Bill Stevens and fam-
ily on their way home.
Mr. and Mrs. Harvey Hyde
and family, Hensall, visited her
mother, Mrs. Alexia Malcolm
and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Malcolm
on Sunday.
Miss Nancy Lannin and Mr.
Bill Lannin visited Mr. and
Mrs, Jack Burchill and family
on Sunday.
WA Elects Officers
The annual meeting of Zion
WA was held at the home of
Mrs. Earl Barker on Tuesday
afternoon, with 13 members
and 15 visitors present. The
Christmas theme was carried
throughout the meeting, open-
ing with three carols, "0 Come,
All Ye Faithful," "Hark! The
Herald Angels Sing" and "Away
in a Manger." Mrs. Lorne Aik-
ens read the Scripture, Luke 2:
8-20, followed by the Lord's
Prayer. "The Carpenter's Shop"
was read by Mrs. Chas. Roney.
A candlelight service was pre-
sented by Mrs. Laurence Bark-
er, Mrs. Glen Pepper, Mrs. Jas.
Statton and Mrs. Lloyd Bark-
er. Mrs. R. S. Aikens favored
with a mouth organ selection,
and readings were given by
Mrs. Norman Bushfield and Mrs.
Dalton Malcolm. A hymn dos-
ed the meeting, after routine
business had been dealt with.
Rev. A. H. Daynard then took
charge of the reading of re-
ports and the election of offi-
cers. The slate of officers for
1962 is as follows: Presidents,
Mrs. Earl Barker, Mrs. Lloyd
Barker, Mrs. Dalton Malcolm;
secretary, Mrs. L. Aikens; treas-
urer, Mrs. Charles Roney; card
secretary, Mrs. Ross Pepper;

A bake sale was held at the
close of the meeting, and lunch
was served by Mrs. Marker and
her assistants.
There is no greater satisfac-
tion than parking on what is
left of the other fellow's nickel.

small salary to get married on,
darling, but 1 might get a job
myself when our honeymoon's
over."

CWL Hears
Discussion on
Decorating
The December meeting of the
subdivision of the Dublin Cath-
olic Women's League was held
in the parish hall with a re-
presentative attendance. Mrs.
F. Horan, the president, open-
ed the meeting with the regula-
tion prayer and a hymn was
sung in unison. The secretary
and treasurer's reports were
read and approved.
It was suggested all members
write the Canadian Broadcast-
ing Corporation of the favor-
able programming of the tele-
vised ordination; also that all
members and their families
watch the program on Sunday
at 12 o'clock from CFPL. A
book will be donated to the
school library.
The guest of the evening,
Herman Trenthlemon, of Seb-
ringville, demonstrated on the
decorating of homes and the
wrapping of parcels at Christ-
mas. Two dollars was donated
for education purposes. Spiri-
tual bouquets will be sent to
the shut-ins for Christmas.
Progressive euchre was play-
ed, with Mrs. John E. Murray
winning the prize. Lunch was
served by the ladies in charge.
