Tuckersmith Twp.:
During the month of August
$1,050 was paid by Council to
two sheep owners for damages
resulting from marauding dogs
killing and injuring their sheep.
If more claimsare registered,
,it will necessitate an increase
in the Dog Tax to cover same.
The Dog Tax and Cattle,
Ac• tep and Poultry Protection
Section 10. Any person may kill
a dog.
(a) that is found killing or
injuring cattle, sheep or
PotiltrY;
(b) that in a township or vil-
lage is found between
sunset and sunrise stray-
ing from the premises
where the dog is habit-
ually kept;
(c) that is found straying at
any time, and not under
proper control, upon pre-
mises where cattle, sheep
or poultry are habitually
kept.
Section 13. A local municipality
having paid to the owner of
cattle, sheep or poultry the
amount of the damage ascer-
tained under section 12 is en-
titled to recover the amount
so paid from the owner of the
dog that did the damage in
any court of competent jur-
isdiction without proving that
it was vicious or accustomed
to worry cattle, sheep or poul-
try.
Section 16. (1) Where the owner
of a dog has knowledge that
the dog has killed or injured
cattle, sheep or poultry, he
shall destroy the dog or cause
the dog to be destroyed with-
in forty-eight hours after ac-
quiring such knowledge.

Church Groups
GROUP 4 WA
Group 4 of the WA of North-
side United Church met at the
hone of Mrs. J. Coutts, with 23
members and three visitors
present. Mrs. Lindsay was in
charge of the devotional part
of the meeting.
Roll call was answered by
giving one of the Ten Com-
mandments. Mrs. A. Riley,
treasurer, has moved away and
Mrs. Jean Dill was appointed to
fill the position as treasurer for
the remainder of the year. Mrs.
L. Wright and Mrs. Corlett
were in charge of the program.
It was decided that the group
have a quilting in October.
Mrs. Rose Bowie will be in
charge of aprons when they
are brought to the meeting.
Mrs. D. McCuaig thanked the
hostess and; lunch committee.
GROUP 2, WA
Group 2 of the WA of North-
side United Church met at the
home of Mrs. H. V. Workman
with an attendance of 19. Mrs.
Ross Savauge was in charge of
devotions. Mrs. James M. Scott
presided over the business part
of the meeting and introduced
Mrs. Thomas Wilbee, who show-
ed pictures and commented on
her recent trip through Quebec.
Lunch was provided by Mrs.
Mae Moffat and Miss Anne Sin-
clair. Mrs. Lorne Dale express-
ed thanks of the group to all
those who helped to make the
meeting a success.
ST. JAMES' CWL
The meeting of St. James'
parish Catholic Women's
League was held Tuesday in
the school auditorium. After
the League Prayer, Mrs. G. R.
Reynolds, the president, wel-
comed the members. All the
conveners gave reports.
Mrs. Reynolds expressed the
thanks of the league for Miss
Pargeter's .assistance at the rec-
tory tea, t'b Mrs. Halpin for her
decoration of the anniversary
cake, and to the ladies who
have helped care for the flow-
ers in the church during the
summer months. One new mem-
ber, Mrs. Lou Nigh, was greet-
ed.
Plans were discussed for the
collection of used toys for the
children at Westminster Hospi-
tal, for monthly euchre parties
during the year, for the Christ-
mas bazaar, for the parish
Christmas party, and for maga-
zines to be sent for the use of
the Missions.
Thoughts for the meeting
were read by Mrs. Reynolds
and Mrs. James Devereaux.
Rev. C. E. Sullivan spoke of
the "parish and what it is in
our daily life."

Honored For Long Service
A long service award was
presented last Friday to Mr. J.
Riley by the Ontario Good
Roads Association at a special
session of Huron County Coup-
oil- Mr. Riley retired after 45
years of service with the Huron
County roads department. John
Snell, with 40 years' service,
was also presented with a cer-
tificate of merit. The awards
were presented by Hugh -Lamb,
of London, a director of the
Good Roads Association.
