ried a basket of white with yel-
low daisies and stephanotis.
Donavon Brunzlow, of Credi-
ton, attended the groom, and
Douglas Norris, Kippen, and
Thomas Triebner, Exeter, ush-
ered the guests.
For receiving the 80 guests
in the church parlors, the
bride's mother chose a gown of
mauve embroidered chiffon ov-
er taffeta with accessories in
black. The groom's mother
wore a navy silk crepe ensem-
ble with navy accessories. They
wore red rose corsages.
Yellow and white streamers
with large baskets of yellow
and white gladioli formed an
attractive background for the
reception, while the tables cen-
tered yellow and white dahlias
and baby's breath. Tea room
attendants were the Misses
Kathryn Anderson, Donna Turn-
bull, Agnes Oesch, Joyce Mc -
Falls, Mary Norris and Marie
Gaiser.
For their honeymoon to Port-
age La Prairie, Manitoba, the
bride chose a mauve chiffon
sheath dress over mauve print
ed taffeta with a three-quarter
length duster with accessories
in white, and a gardenia cor-
sage.
The young couple will reside
on the groom's farm near,Credi-
ton.

BLYTH—Red and white glad-
ioli graced the altar of St.
Peter's Roman Catholic Church,
Goderich, and formed a pleas-
ing background Saturday morn-
ing, August 19, at 11 o'clock,
for the marriage of Lyda Beryl,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Geo.
Pollard, King St., Blyth, to
William Michael Cleary, of
Scarboro, Ont., son of Mr. and
Mrs. William Cleary, Havre
Boucher, Nova Scotia. Rev.
Father J. Maynahan, priest of
St. Peter's Church, officiated for
the double -ring ceremony. The
organist was Mrs. Carl Schneik-
er, and the soloist, Mrs. Bert
Baechler, both of Goderich.
The bride, given in mar-
riage by her father, wore a
lovely gown of White rosepoint
lace and nylon tulle; with triple
alternate tiers of matching lace
falling at the back of the skirt
into a chapel train. The bodice
was princess style with lily -
point sleeves. The sabrina neck-
line was sprinkled with jewels.
Her elbow -length veil of roll-
ed edge silk illusion fell from
a crown of aurora -borealis and
matching jewels. She carried a
cascade of red Briarcliffe roses,
showered with red Sweetheart
rosebuds,
Mrs. Janet Whitehouse, of
Caledonia, was her sister's ma-
tron of honor, wearing a dress
of aquamarine bambazine, fash-
ioned with a ruffled skirt which
featured buffant puffs caught
with tiny roses of self -matching
material and short sleeves. She
wore a silk feathered cloche
and matching accessories, and
carried a crescent of yellow
baby mums.
Miss Millie Doughtery, Gode-
rich, was bridesmaid. Her dress
and flowers were identical to
the matron of honor.
The best man was Mr. Peter
Le Blanc, Toronto. Ushering
the guests were John Pollard,
Blyth, brother of the bride, and
James Drehman, Goderich.
A wedding dinner was serv-
ed at the Bluewater Lounge,
Goderich, where the decora-
tions were mid -summer flowers
—gladiolus, snapdragon a n d
chrysanthemums.
For a honeymoon trip to
Havre Boucher, N.S., the bride
travelled in an ensemble of
peacock blue silk chiffon over
floral glazed cotton. Her sheath
dress was topped with a match-
ing three-quarter length coat;
with mandarin collar and Dol-
man sleeves. She wore white
accessories, and ..,. her corsage
was white roses. On their re-
turn they will reside at Scar-
boro.
Guests were present from St.
Catharines, Toronto, North Bay,
Caledonia and Blyth.
FRASER—GOVENLOCK
Wearing the 77 -year-old en-
gagement ring that had belong-
ed to her late grandmother,
Mrs. J. M. Govenlock, Miss Joan
Elizabeth Govenlock, daughter
of Mr. William Nelson Goven-
lock, and Mr. Alexander Fraser,
son of Mr. and Mrs. Alexander
Fraser, were married. Dr. W.
J. Johnston officiated in the dou-
ble ring ceremony held in the
East Chapel of Timothy Eaton
Memorial Church. Mr. Goven-
lock gave his daughter in mar-
riage.
For her wedding, the bride
chose a gown of Chantilly lace
over satin, with a headpiece of
matching lace and seed pearls
holding her fingertip illusion
veil. She carried a cascade of
Sweetheart roses and miniature
carnations, all in white.
Mrs. Harry Blayney was her
sister's only attendant, wearing
a waltz -length gown of royal
blue chiffon. She carried a bou-
quet of white carnations and
cornflowers.
Mr. William John Fraser was
best man for his brother, and
ushers were Mr. Harry Blayney,
of Simcoe, and Mr. Roy Cook,

mony in Brussels United
Church on Saturday, August 19,
at 3 p.m., Ruth Eleanor Hem-
ingway, daughter -of Mr. and
Mrs, Carl Hemingway, Brussels,
became the bride ,pf James L.
Axtanann, Taviatopk, sen of Mr.
and Mrs .Herman Axtmann, RR
2, Walton. Rev. Kenneth Grif-
fith officiated.
The bride wore a white nylon
chiffon gown over satin in prin-
cess style with a sweetheart
neckline and lily point sleeves.
The fullness in the back fell
from a V-shaped back waist-
line. The skirt and neckline
were decorated with floral ap-
pliques. Her floral headdress
held her fingertip tulle veil,
trimmed 'with rhinestones and
pearls. She carried a Bible
crested with an orehid and ivy.
Mrs. Lavern Godkin, sister of
the bride, was matron of hon-
or, wearing a blue chiffon over
floral print. Miss Betty Axt-
mann, Brampton, was brides-
maid, wearing a similar dress
of turquoise chiffon over print.
Both had round necklines,
short sleeves and'' bouffant
skirts. The junior bridesbaid,
Miss Laurel Hemingway, and
the flower -girl, Miss Karen Hem-
ingway, wore dresses of similar
style in plain turquoise and
blue chiffon. They carried
nosegays of blue pom-poms and
*white chrysanthemums.
Mr, Earl McSpadden, Sea --
forth, was groomsman. Mr,
Donald Hemingway, brother of
the bride, and Mr. Bob Camp-
bell, Seaforth, were ushers.
Miss Rosemary Clark, Gode-
rich, was organist for the Jun-
ior Farmer's Quartette from
Wellington, who sang t h e
bride's selections, "The Wed-
ding Prayer" and "Because."
A reception followed in the
church parlors for 85 guests,
with the bride's mother receiv-
ing in dusty pink shantung and
lace with hat to match, and a
corsage of white chrysanthe-
mums. The groom's mother as-
sisted, wearing an apple green
sheath dress with jacket of lin-
en and lace with a hat of gold
colored straw, and a corsage of
bronze chrysanthemums.
For a wedding trip to the
east coast the bride chose a
royal blue jacket dress with
accessories in blue and white,
and an orchid corsage. On their
return the couple will -reside in
Tavistock.
Guests were present from
Detroit, Windsor, London, Ailsa
Craig, Georgetown, Streetsville,
Guelph, Toronto, Picton, Tavi-
stock,
avistock, Granton, Exeter, Sea -

church, performed the cere-
mony, and Miss Marion Hoover
accompanied the soloist, Miss
Mary Lee Hollenbeck, Wing -
ham.
The bride, given in marriage
by her eldest brother, Clarence
Machan, Wingham, was wear-
ing a floor -length gown of Chan-
tilly lace over satin with fitted
bodice and lily -point sleeves.
The neckline was trimmed with
seed pearls and iridescent se-
quins. Tiers of Chantilly lace
made up the billowing skirt.
Her headpiece, a coronet of
pearls, intertwined with crystal
beads, with three crystal drops
in front, held her imported silk
illusion re -embroidered circular
veil. She also wore the bride-
groom's gift, a set of crystal
beads and earrings. Her flowers
were a cascade of red roses,
stephanotis and trailing ivy.
Mrs, Robert W. Barwick, of
Trenton, Miss Gail Machan and
Miss Patricia Machan (flower -
girl), all sisters of the bride,
were her attendants; and Lawr-
ence Machan, brother of the
bride, was ring -bearer.
Carmen Howatt, Blyth, was
groomsman and Kenneth Mc,.
Kenzie, Toronto, ushered.
A reception was held in the
church parlor. The bride's
mother wore a sheath dress of
black and white arnel with
matching jacket, green acces-
sories, and a corsage , of red
roses. The bridegroom's moth-
er was in a dress of brown
silk print with green accessor-
ies and a corsage of red roses.
The, couple left on a wed-
ding trip to Niagara Falls and
the Thousand Islands, the bride
wearing a suit of blue 'linen,
with white accessories and a
corsage of red roses and blue
cornflowers. They will live on
the bridegroom's farm, RR 5,
Wingham.
The restaurant owner was
sampling the soup made by the
newly hired cook.
"You say you served over-
seas?" he asked.
"Yes, sir," said the cook, "I
was officers' mess cook for two
years, and I was wounded
twice."
"You're a lucky man," observ-
ed the owner. "It's a wonder
they didn't kill you."
