GIFT PRESENTATION FEATURES
25th WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. Delbert Geiger,
Zurich, were pleasantly surpris-
ed recently when relatives met
at their home to honor them on
the occasion of their 25th wed-
ding anniversary and present
them with many lovely and
costly gifts. A humorous mock
wedding was staged' and well
portrayed. Luncheon was serv-
ed, including an anniversary
cake.
Members of Hensall Legion
and Ladies' Auxiliary enjoyed
their annual picnic at Bayfield
last Sunday. The day was ideal
for a full program of sports,
conducted by Mrs. Harold Camp-
bell and Mrs. Howard Smale.
Mr, and Mrs. Ivan Hall and
Douglas, of Sudbury, were week
end guests with Mr. and Mrs.
Lorne McNaughton of Crom-
arty.
Mrs. Melvin Johnston, of St.
Catharines, is visiting with her

Delbert Geiger, Zurich, when a
delicious chicken dinner, buffet
style, was served, and a social
time spent.
Weekend guests with Mr. and
Mrs. R. M. Peck were: Dr, J.
Smillie Robertson, of Toronto,
and Rev. and .Mrs. Ben Smillie
and family, formerly of Vancou-
ver, who bas been studying in
Boston the past year and is on
his way to be chaplain of the
University of Saskatchewan, in
Saskatoon.
Commence Gospel Services
A large crowd attended the
first service at Starlite Drive -In
Gospel Services at Grand Bend
Sunday evening, with the gath-
ering estimated ,-at 750. Guest
speakers were Chaplain A.
Jackson and Chaplain J. Keyes,
Transport For Christ, Toronto.
Special music was by local
massed choirs and the St.
Marys Tabernacle quartette.
Sunday, July 16, guest speak-
er will be Dave McClurkin, of
Galt (member of Christian Busi-
ness Men, Accountant, youth
speaker). Shirley Martin; Galt,
will be soprano soloist, with
gospel recording at 8 p.m. and
a massed choir.
Smillie Clan Reunion
The annual Smillie clan re-
union was held at Seaforth
Lions Park on Saturday, July 8,
with a good attendance, and a
turkey dinner and picnic sup-
per served. SW'ihiining was en-
joyed by many and a ball game.
Winners in games and con-
tests, prepared by Ken Elder, of
Hamilton, and Miss Norma Gei-
ger, of Zurich, were: Donna Eat -
well, Ruth Smillie, Donna Peck,
Christine Smillie, Ralph Gei-
ger, Margie Geiger, Larry El-
der, Patricia Moore, Mrs. J.
Smillie, Freddy Elder, Bill
Howe and Wayne Peck.
President Ken Elder, of Hen-
sall, extended a warm welcome
to all the guests and conducted
a short business period. Sea
forth Lions Park was chosen as
the place for next year's picnic,
Saturday, July 7. The secre-
tary's report was given by Dr.
A. B. Smillie, Niagara Falls.

The Hensall Legion Ladies'
Auxiliary will again sponsor
the Red Cross Blood Clinic to
be held in the Legion Hall on
Wednesday, July 19, from 5 to
9 p.m. A spokesman for the
auxiliary said the need for
blood is just as urgent now as
it ever was, and that both new
and repeat donors will be wel-
come. Members of the auxiliary
will be on hand to assist the
Red Cross technicians.
Summer recreation program
opens here next Monday morn-
ing, July 17, at 9 a.m. at the
arena. Robert Reaburn, princi-
pal of the public school, will be
in charge, assister by a group
of teen-agers. Activities will fol-
low the same pattern as in pre-
vious years, with craft instruc-
tion and hobby activities, plus
the usual recreational and
sports 'program.
Mr. Tom Sherritt, of Hensall,
was judged best fifer in the
competition at the Orange cele-
bration held in Milverton on
Saturday. Mr. Sherritt is a
member of the Bayfield Orange
Lodge.

Mr. and Mrs. N. Long.
Miss Mae Somerville, of Win-
nipeg, is spending the month
of July with her friends, Mr.

Organizations Have Picnic
The Baby Band and Mission
Band picnic of St. Andrew's
United Church, Kippen, was
held at the Lions Park, Seaforth,
on Thursday afternoon, July 6,
with a good attendance. Hos-
tesses were Miss Dorothy Turn
er and Mrs. Ross Broadfoot. In
charge of sports were Mrs. Har-
old Pones and Mrs. Laird Fin-
layson.
Winners were as follows:
Five years and under, David
Lovell and Billy Consitt; six to
eight years, Kathy Hendrick,
Karen Hendrick; girls, nine to
11 years, Gwenneth Hendrick,
Joan Sinclair; boys, nine to 11
years, Kenneth Jones, Douglas
McKay; girls, 14 years and un-
der, Marjorie Turner, Gwen-
neth Hendrick; relay race, Mrs.
Hugh • Hendrick's team; young-
est baby, Jeffrey McKay; young-
est grandmother, Mrs. John Sin-
clair; lady with most buttons on
dress, Mrs. Bob Elgie. A candy
scramble ended the sports.
A delicious picnic supper fol-
lowed. Table committee were
as follows: Mrs. John Anderson
and Mrs. John Sinclair. It was
decided to hold the Sunday
School picnic on July 24.

TAKE BELL TEAM- WITH 23 RUNS
Winthrop downed the Bell
Telephone Girls 23-5 in a lad-
ies' softball game played in Win-
throp on Monday night. The
Winthrop girls pounded 31 hits
off Clinton pitchers in the game
and led 16-2 after three in-
nings.

Score Soccer Victories
Winthrop roared to two vic-
tories in HFA action during the
past week when they d^gyned
Goderich 3-1 on Saturday night
and blanked Brussels 4-0 Tues-
day in a game played in Brus-
sels. On Saturday night the
score was 0-0 at half time, but
Winthrop took command from
the start of the second half and
rapped in three goals. Ken Mc-
CIure had two goals and Geo.
Love one.
In the gafne with Brussels,
Winthrop carried most of the
play and rolled to their third
straight victory, as they shut
out the home team 4-0. Goals
for Winthrop were tallied by
John Boven, Hank Boven, Ken
McClure and Bert Dennis.

FOR NEW WALTON SCHOOL AREA
GREY COUNCIL
Grey Township Council met
July 3, when the following mo-
tions were adopted:
Kenneth Bray and Lawson
Ward: That the minutes of the
regular meeting June 3, and
special meetings of June, 9 and
26, be adopted as read.
Bray and Mann: That we ac-
cept an application for a loan
of $1,500 under the Tile Drain-
age Act,
Ward and Huether: That we
pass Bylaw No. 11, 1961, to ap-
point Melvin Carnochan inspec-
tor under the Tile Drainage Act.
Bray and Ward: That we ac-
cept the auditor's report for
1960.
Bray and Mann: That we pass
Supplementary Bylaw No. 12,
1961, in the amount of. $16,000,
and submit the bylaw to the De-
partment of Highways for ap-
proval.
Huether and Ward: That we
give a grant of $30 to Cran-
brook and Moncrieff Libraries,
$15 to Molesw'oh and Walton,
and $50 to the Ethel Library.
Bray and Ward: That we give
Ethel Cemetery Board a grant
of $100.
Bray and Ward: That we set
the residential township rate at
11.5 mills, the commercial rate
at 14 mills, the Fire Depart-
ment at 0.5 mills for the year
1961.
Ward and Huether: That this
council assents to Bylaw No. 7,
1961, of the Township of Mor-
ris, to remove certain proper-
ties from the Morris Township
School Area.'
Mann and Bray: That this
council assents to Bylaw No. 8,
1961, of the Township of Mor-
ris, to include in Grey Township
School Area No. 2, that portion
of Grey Township which is now
a part of the Morris Township
School Area.
Mann and Ward: That all ap-
proved accounts be paid.
Huether and Bray: That we
do now adjourn to meet again
on August 3, at 7:30 p.m., or
at the call of the. reeve.

HOWICK COUNCIL
The regular July meeting of
Howick Township Council was
held in the clerk's office. All
members were present and the
reeve, Arthur Gibson, was in
the chair. The minutes of the
last regular meeting and spe-
cial 'meetings were read and on
motion of King and R. Gibson
were adofl"ted as read.
The following motions were
adopted:
Haskins and Strong; That the
engineer's report on the Branch
"C" of the Bolton Drain be ac-
cepted and provisionally adopt-
ed, and that the Clerk be here-
by instructed to prepare the
necessary bylaw and copies of
same, and that application for
Provincial Aid be made to the
Department of Public Works of
Ontario.
R. Gibson and King: That the
court of revision on the Branch
"C" of the Bolton Drain be held
on August,5, at 11 a.m.
R. Gibson and Strong: That
Bylaw No. 14-61, of the Town-
ship of Howick for the year
1961, the Branch "C" of the
Bolton Drain Bylaw, as read
the first and second time, be
passed.
King and Strong: That the
clerk be authorized to advertise
for tenders for construction of
the Berlett-Gibson Drain, and
the Branch "C" of the Bolton
Drain.
Haskins and Strong: That By-
law No. 9-61 of the Township of
Howick for the year 1961, the
Berlett-Gibson Drain Bylaw, as
read the third time be finally
passed.
King and R. Gibson: That we
order tile for the Berlett-Gib-
son Drain and Branch "C" of
the Bolton Drain.
Strong and King: That the
tender of Robert Nicholson &
Sons for the construction of the
Wills Drain No. 3 for $742 be
accepted.
