Donald Buchanan. d Miss Catharine Buchanan, of Mr. Gerald Dressel, of Ham - • Kitchener, spent a few days ilton, visited at his home over - with her parents, Mr. and Mrsthe weekend. n Brumfield Native Dies In Montreal A former moderator of gen- eral assembly of the Presbyter- ian Church, Dr_ Ketches died to Montreal June 9, in his 89th year. He was a native of Bruce - field. His first and only pastorate vas MacNab Street Church in Hamilton, where he served for 41 years until his retirement in 1946. During this record ministry he became known for his eloquence in the pulpit and on the public platform. An auth- or as well, he contributed regu- larly for some years to The Presbyterian Record, as well as other publications. H. B. Ketchen was born near Brucefield in Huron County, the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. John Ketchen. After attendurg collegiate, he graduated from the University of Toronto and in 1904 received the diploma of Knox College. After a brief term as assistant in St. Paul's Church, Peterborough, he was called to MacNab Street in 1905. Knox College conferred an hon- orary D.D. degree on him in 1928. As a Mason Dr. Ketchen was a member of St. John's Lodge and the Scottish Rite. A large congregation gathered in Mac- Nab Street Church for the fun- eral on June 13. a Dr. Ketchen was predeceas- ed by his wife. Surviving are a son, Thornton Beverley, of Hamilton, and two daughters, Mrs. Douglas Coombs, of Mont- real, and Mrs. J. Frank Duff, of Burlington. Seliade gave the topic, the last chapter of the study book. Mrs. C. Wey and Mrs. E. McCreath sang a duet, accompanied by Mrs. Watson. - Mrs. Torrance Dundas gave the secretary's report, and Mrs. Jim Clarke, the treasurer's re• port. Members of the Baby Band and their mothers are to be en- tertained at the August meet- ing at the home of Mrs. Emer- son Mitchell. The meeting clos- ed with prayer by Mrs. J. Bos- man. WA Meeting Mrs. Nelson Reid chaired the WA meeting and opened by all singing a hymn, followed by prayer. Mrs. R. Bennett read the minutes and thank -you cards from Mrs. J. Leeming and the Victor Horde in Toronto. Mrs. Andrew Cd'utts gave the treas- urer's report. A picnic was plan• ned for July 13 at 7 p.nt in the park, everyone to bring a pass -around Lunch and own cups. Rev. A. Higginbotham and Young People's Union will be in charge of sports. The meet- ing closed with prayer. Mission Band Eric Williamson acted as president for the July meeting of the Mission Band held in the church basement last Sun- day morning. "Jesus Loves Me" was sung with Marg Leeming as pianist. The primary chil- dren sang an extra verse which they had learned in Sunday School.,. Eric Williamson read the Call to Worship, taken from Psalm 66:1 and 2, and "When He Cometh" was sung. John Muir read the Scripture taken from Matthew 25:14-21. The leader, Mrs. Walter Bewley, ex- plained the scripture and asked the children to use their talents wisely. She also reminded the children that the offering this year went to help provide Bibles for people in other countries. Karen Coutts led in prayer. Bruce Clark and Larry Walters passed the offering plates, and Eric Williamson dedicated the offering with prayer. Bruce Clark read the treas- urer's report and stated that $49 had been sent to the Pres- byterial treasurer so far this year. Jack McCall read the min- utes of last meeting. Eric Wil- liamson conducted the business. There will be no meeting in August. The September meet- ing will have Beverley McCall read the Scripture; Helen Searle to led in prayer, and Karen McDonald play the piano. Classes were conducted by Miss Mona Clark, Mrs. A. Clark, Mrs. G. McGavin and Mrs. Nelson Marks. The hymn, "God Sees the Little Sparrow Fall" was sung, and the meeting closed with the Mizpah benediction. The Sacrament of the Lord's Supper will be observed in Dt1ff's United Church next Sun- day morning with Rev. A. Hig- ginbotham conducting the serv- ice. The annual picnic of Duff's United Church congregation will be held in the Community Park Thursday evening, July 13. A basket lunch will be serv- ed. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Watson, Donna and Davey, of Sarnia, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Robert McMichael. Mrs. Wilfred Shortreed is a patient in Victoria Hospital, London, after undergoing an operation last Friday. Miss Jessie McLaughlin, of Windsor, is spending a few weeks with her cousin, Mrs. Ar- thur McCall and Mr. McCall. Mr. Carl Coutts returned to London on Monday after spend- ing the .past week with his par- ents, Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Coutts and Mr. and Mrs. E. McCreath.
