Dublin Institute entertained Seaforth and Glen Gowrie Insti- tutes. The meeting opened with the singing of the Ode and the reciting of the Mary Stewart Col- lect in unison. The roll call was • answered by each member stating what she best liked about the In- stitute. Mrs. Thomas Butters introduced the speaker for the evening, Mr. Fred Peel, of Seaforth. He gave a very interesting account of his trip through Russia; he also showed slides depicting the people and the • country of Russia. His talk was enjoyed by all. Mrs. Audrey Whetham extended thanks to Mr. Peel for his kind- ness in addressing the meeting. Lunch was served by the ladies of the appointed committee. Announce Results Music Recital Pupils of Mrs. Frank Thompson, Brussels, presented a music re- cital in the auditorium of the new Brussels Public School on Wednes- day, June 28. In opening the re- cital, Mrs. Thompson stated the main purpose of the event was to acquaint parents and interested friends of the advancement being made in the musical field by the children of the district, In all, 32 pupils took part in the program. Vocal solos were rendered by Mrs. Thompson, Jo -Ann Dunn and 'Brenda Bone; a piano duet by Joyce Huether and Ann Oldfield was much enjoyed. Others taking part in the program included: Mary Gibson, Sandra McNichol, Neil McDonald, Carolyn Lake, Les- lie Perrie, Norma Jean Mair, Neil Hemingway, Helen Searle, Bobby Black, Barbera Bryans, Murray McDonald, Brenda Bone, Maryann Phelan, Robert Tyerman, Lynne Workman, Jim Wheeler, Sheila Strickler, Doug Wheeler, Will Perrie, Greg Wilson, Joan Garniss, Linda Bryans, Nancy Strickler, Carol Shortreed, Ruth McTaggart, Glenna Houston, Sharon Storey and Brenda Houston. In the recent music exams held at Blyth by the Royal Conservatory of Music, Toronto, pupils. of Mrs. Thompson, who wrote exam's and their results, are: Grade X, Singing: Honours, Mrs. Thompson; Grade II, Theory: Bren- da Houston, first class honours; Grade V, Piano: Glenna Houston, honours; Sharon Storey, pass; Grade VII, Piano: Brenda Houston, honours. KIPPEN Mr. and Mrs. James Drummond and family, of Toronto, spent the holiday weekend with Mr. and Mrs. James Drummond and fam- ily of Kippen. The Kippen east Institute are invited to a picnic at Riverview Park in Exeter on July 12, at 2:30 p.m., as guests of Elimville Insti- tute. St. Columban CWL Plans ,-Supper The July . meeting of the. 1s council of the Catholic Women's League was held on Tuesday eve- ning at the home of Mrs. Thomas Kale, with 43 members present. The president, Mrs. Albert Cron- in, presided and opened the meet- ing with the league prayer. The ininutes of the previous meeting were read by the secretary, Mrs. Tom Kale. The first vice-president, Mrs. Nora Maloney, reported 96 paid-up members. Mrs. Jack Lane gave the treasurer's report. It was announced that silverware has been purchased and stamped. Mrs. Jack McIver and Mrs. Jack Murphy volunteered to care for the altars for the month of August. Plans for the supper to be held July 19, were discussed and final arrangements made. Rev. Father Coughlin gave an interesting talk and congratulated the ladies on their work and co-operation. A mystery prize, donated by Mrs. Emmett Malone, was won by Mrs. Clarence Ryan. Mrs. Frank Bowman moved a vote of thanks to Mrs. Kale for the use of her home. The meeting adjourned and lunch was served by the commit- tee in charge. News of Harlock Parents, Pupils Honor Teacher On Friday evening, June 30th, parents, pupils and friends met at the schoolhouse, SS No. 6, Hullett, where a miscellaneous shower was held to honor the teacher, Miss Dorothy Keys, prior to her July wedding. Miss Keys was seated in a decorated chair. A welcome was read by --Betty Jean MacGregor. A contest of drawing a picture of the groom was won by Mrs. Melvin Hulley. A reading was given by Janet Hulley, and a making -the - word contest was won by Mrs. Frank MacGregor and Mrs. Geo. Smith. Dianne Roe read the ad- dress: "Dear Miss Keys: We are gath- ered here to wish you joy as you are about to wed; there is nothing new for us to say, as everything has been said. So we'll wish you joy and happiness, with the same old words, 'tis true, but they have a special meaning when we say them, Miss Keys, "just for you." Now while seated in the honor chair these gifts were present to you, and in the years that follow, may each gift bring a memory fond and true. Again- we wish you years of joy and happiness untold, and may you still have sweet fond memories when there's silver threads among the gold.—Signed on behalf of your friends, parents and pupils." The pupils presented Miss Keys with many useful gifts. Miss Keys thanked everyone and invited them to the trousseau tea at her mother's home on Saturday, July 1st. A lovely lunch was served by acting hostesses, Mrs. Arthur Mc- Clure, Mrs. James McEwing, Mrs. Arthur. McMichael and Mrs. Gor- don MacGregor. Miss Mary Lou Roe left on Sun- day for Guelph, where she will take a summer course in physical education. She will stay in resi- dence at Macdonald Institute. Visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Scott on Sunday were Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Lear, Londesboro, Mr. and Mrs. George Underwood and family, of Turn - berry, Mr. and Mrs. Harry Lear and family, and Mr. and Mrs. Jim Scott, Jr., and family, of Hullett. Visitors during the week with Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Roe were Mrs. Amy Speir, of Brussels, Mr. and Mrs. William Orr, of Milver- ton, and Mrs. William Machan, of Ethel. Mrs. Robert Reid left on Sunday to take up residence with her hus- band, who is stationed in Kingston. NEWS OF BRODHAGEN 1000 Crowd Area Park For Annual Garden Party More tlian..1,000 attended the 57th annual Brodhagen band so- cial at the Brodhagen and Dis- trict Communityon Park Wednes- day evening. The event opened with a parade of three bands—At- wood, Thedford and Brodhagen, with their majorettes, led by Mr. and Mrs. Ross Leonhardt on their horses. Clayton Ahrens, the president, welcomed all -p esent and a pro- gram was presnted. Master of ceremonies was Johnny Brent, of Wingham. Bingo was played in the basement and other games of chance on the grounds. Booths were both inside the hall and on the grounds. Dancing was enjoyed to Desjardine's orchestra on the open-air floor and in the hall. At midnight the draw for eight prize was held. The 'Winners are: first prize, complete movie cam- era outfit, Mrs. Myrtle Dewing, Mitchell; second prize, Goodyear nylon passenger tires, Mrs. Bill Heath, Mitchell; third prize, card table and chairs, Mrs. G. Last Thursday afternoon the children of the school enjoyed a picnic on the school grounds at which time they presented Mr. Don Wolfe, the teacher, with a leather billfold and leather key case, af- ter being their teacher for the past two years. Mr. Wolfe will be teaching in London in September. He is at present taking a summer course in Toronto. The sympathy of the cominunity is extended to Mrs. Harvey Ahrens and family in the death of her father, James Leslie Wintering - ham, Mitchell. The sympathy of the commun- ity is extended to the relatives of Otto Ritz, whose funeral was held here on Monday. Master Alvin Hicks, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hicks, will spend the next two weeks at Edgewood Camp, Eden Mills, Ont. Master Dennis Smith, son of Mr. and Mfrs. Kenneth Smith, will spend one week at the same camp, also Mur- ray Haines, son of Mrs. Pearl Haines, Bornholm, is also attend- ing this camp this week. The Mogk reunion was held at the Community Hall here on Sat- urday, July 1. The Morenz reunion and the Diegel reunion were both held at the Community Park, on Sunday, July 2. The Murray - McLaughlin wed- ding supper and reception was held at the Community Hall here on Saturday. Mrs. Russell Slildice and Bev- erley and Mrs. Gary Sholdice at- tended the trousseau tea for Miss Dorothy Keys at the home of her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Keys, McKillop, on Saturday. A shower was held for Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Beuermann (Audrey Godkin), at the Community Hall on Friday evening. Ralph Siemon read the address which was writ- ten by Mrs. Fred Herbert, and they were presented with money. Lorne Mueller's orchestra played for dancing and lunch was served in the basement. Diegel Reunion The ,24th annual Diegel reun- ion• was held at° the Community Park, Brodhagen, on Sunday after- noon, July 2, with over 160 in at- tendance. Races and games and a social get-together was enjoyed by all. George. Young, the president, conducted the business meeting before lunch was served •Gary Sholdice, the secretary, read the minutes of the 1960 reunion. One minute silence'. was observed for two departed members, Mrs. John C. Diegel and Otto Ritz, It was decided to hold the 1962 reunion which will be the 25th anniversary, on July 1, at the home of Mrs. George Leonhardt, RR 2, Walton, at whose home the reunion was started 25 years ago.
