OBITUARIES
Death of Mrs. Ernest Waines
Mrs. Ernest Waines, prominent
resident of Owen Sound and moth-
er of Mrs. Ron Mock, passed away
in South Huron Hospital, Exeter,
Sunday, July 2, where she had
been admitted on Friday evening.
In her 69th. year, Mrs. Waines,
who has been in poor health for
some month's, had been staying
with her daughter and son-in-law,
Mr. and Mrs. Ron Mock, since. Feb-
ruary. She was the former Lillian
Cutbush, of Owen Sound, and wi-
dow of the late Ernest Waines.
Survivors are two daughters,
Mrs. (Kathleen) Ron Mock, Hen-
sall; Mrs. (Margaret) L. E. Sea-
brook, Waterloo; one son, Ken, of
Owen Sound, and one brother,
George, Owen Sound. The late
Mrs. Waines rested -at the Bon-
thron funeral chapel, Hensall, on
Sunday and taken on Monday to
the Breckenridge -Ashcroft funeral
chapel, Owen Sound,-. for public
services at First United Church,
Wednesday, at 2 p.m., with inter-
ment in Greenwood cemetery.

Wedding Day
Mr. and Mris Herb Karcher, of
Hensall, who observed their 40th
wedding anniversary on June 29,
celebrated the occasion with a
family dinner on Sunday, July 2,
at the Dominion Hotel, Zurich. The
date also marked the 12th wed-
ding anniversary. kof their daugh-
ter and son-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. S.
Jeffery.
Mr. and Mrs. Kercher were mar-
ried 40 years ago in Cromarty by
the late Rev. David Ritchie, and
moved to their present farm in
Tuckersmith, where they have
since resided. The bride is the
former Myrtle Wright. They have
three children: Margaret, Mrs. Jas.
Jordan, of London; Ross, at home,
and Doris, Mrs. Spencer Jeffery,
of Staffa; also three grandchildren,
Judy, Ruth and Billy Jeffery.
After a delicious dinner during
which an anniversary cake was
served, the family presented their
parents with a stainless steel elec-
tric skillet, and the grandchildren
gave them a cup and saucer.
The bride of forty years ago
wore an orchid corsage andthe
groom a buttoneire, also gifts
from the family. Mr. and Mrs. Ker -
cher are wished many more years
of happy married life.

Teaching Career
Mr. Elliott Fairbairn, a native of
Tuckersmith, and brother of Wil-
liam Fairbairn, of town, was hon-
ored on the occasion of his retire-
ment from the teaching profession
and in recognition of 35 years
spent as a teacher in Tillsonburg,
at a testimonial dinner at Mil -
Mar Manor Last Wednesday eve-
ning. Mr. Fairbairn retired as pub-
blic school principal, goingto
Tillsonburg in 1926. Most of those
years he has been principal, and
in recognition of his long serFice
in teaching, the new school built
in 1957 was named the Elliott
Fairbairn Public School.
At the ceremonies, a scroll on
behalf of the town was presented
to him by Mayor Vance, and a
large bouquet - of roses to Mrs.
Fairbairn. A large picture of Mr.
Fairbairn was presented to the
Elliott Fairbairn Public School
and a small replica to his wife.
Many other gifts and congratula-
tory messages were presented to
mark Mr. Fairbairn's 48 years as
an educationalist. The veteran
teacher attended public school in
this area, Seaforth High School and
Stratford Normal.

Funeral of Mrs. J. Hudson
Funeral services for Mrs. Jack
Hudson, 79, of Hensall, were held
from the Bonthron Funeral Chapel,
Saturday, July 1st, conducted by
Rev. Currie Winlaw, with inter-
ment in Maitlandbank cemetery,
Seaforth.
Mrs. Hudson, the former Vic-
toria Ida Hislop, of St. Marys,
passed away in Clinton Public
Hospital on Thursday, where she
had been for the past three and a
half months with a fractured hip,
suffered in a fall at her home.
Survivors .are her husband and
one niece of Wyoming.
Kinettes Have Meeting
The regular meeting of the Kin-
ette Club was held Tuesday eve-
ning at the summer cottage of Mr,
and Mrs. Harold Bonthron. Mrs,
George Sawyer, of Exeter, a for-
mer member, who is leaving for
Tillsonburg in the near future,
was an invited guest and present-
ed a gift by President Mrs. •Ross
Jinks on behalf of the club. Year-
ly reports were submitted and a
birthday gift will be forwarded
to their adopted little girl in Italy.
Mrs. William Clement won the
raffle. Meetings will resume in
September. A pot -luck supper was
enjoyed after the meeting.
