The evening was spent playing a -variety of games. Mrs. Roy Noble read an address extending the best wishes of the group and the couple were pres- ented with a set of stainless steel flatware and an electric fry pan. Struck By 'Car Larry Simpson, 5, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Simpson, Exeter, is resting comfortably in South Hur- on Hospital, Exeter, from injuries received when he ran in front of a car driven by LAC Clarence Hoy, of Hensall, stationed at RCAF Sta- tion Centralia. Mr. Hoy, driving south on Main Street, Exeter, skid- ded 22 feet when he applied the brakes, but the bumper hit the Child, throwing him a distance of 15 feat onto the soft shoulder. He suffered a concussion and fractur- ed nose. The accident happened Sunday morning while:4he children were leaving Sunday School at Main Street United Church. Surviving are his parents; three sisters, Gail, Pamela and Sheila, and his grand- parents, Mr. and Mrs. Robert Simp- son, of Hensall. Resting at the Bonthron Funeral Chapel, Hensall, graveside services at Baird's ceme- tery on Wednesday, at 2 p.m., were conducted by Rev. Currie Winlaw. Evening Auxiliary Meets The Evening Auxiliary of the United Church met Monday even- ing for their monthly meeting, with Mrs. Ron Mock presiding, who welcomed the members and guests. Mrs. Don Joyntook the devotion- al, the theme being "Our Responsi- bilities To Society." Scripture pas- sages were read by Mrs. Joynt and prayer offered by Mrs. Douglas Cook, who also gave the study, reviewing the last chapter of the study book, "The Turning World— Unity Begins At Home." Mrs. Clare McBride and Bob Forrest rendered several delight- ful trumpet duets which were much enjoyed. Plans were discuss- ed for a bazaar, tea and bake sale in th'e fall. Mrs. Byran Kyle re- ported for the visiting committtee, and Mrs. John Heal, the treasur- er's report. Mrs. C. Christie show- ed a filth, "We Are All Brothers," and Mrs. Edison Forrest also show- ed pictures on Mexico, taken by ljliss Mildred Forrest. Luncheon was served. Hostesses were Mrs. Dave Kyle and Mrs. Byran Kyle. WMS Has Birthday Party The Senior WMS of Carmel Pres- byterian Church, Hensall, held their 71st birthday party in the church schoolroom Monday eve- ning, June 12, with ladies of Cav- en Church, Exeter, Zurich Luther- an, St. Paul's Anglican, Hensall United and the Arnold Circle as guests. Mrs. Earl Campbell, president, was in charge. The devotional theme,"Carry the Torch," was carried out by Mrs. Earl Campbell and Miss Hannah Murray, assisted by Mrs. Percy Campbell and Mrs. Harvey Hyde. Mrs. Ed. Munn pre- sided at the piano. Mrs. George Lamont, of Mitchell, guest speaker, spoke on "The Three L's—Love; Life and Laughter," pointing out we can live life to its fullest if we practise Christian love and look on- the bright side. She was introduced by Mrs. Malcolm Dou- all and thanked by Mrs. Sam Dou- gall. Mrs. John Girot, of Exeter, fav- ored with a solo, "Nearer My God To Thee," a verse sting in English, Spanish and French, ac- companied by Mrs. Harry Strang at the piano. A social hour and lunch followed under the direction of Mrs. Malcolm Dougall, Mrs. Clarence Volland and Mrs. Percy Campbell. The two-tier birthday talo• was cut by Mrs. R. Y. McLaren. Mrs. Alex McGregor and Mrs. Archie Hoggarth were in charge of the decorations. Reception committee were Mrs. Sam Dougall and Mrs. Earl Campbell. Baskets of spirea, iris and mums formed an attrac- tive floral setting. CROMARTY Mr, and Mrs. Hugh Moore and family and Mrs. Ernie Armstrong visited over the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. T. L. Scott and with Mrs. E. Moore. Mr. and Mrs. John Wallace, Mar- garet Ann and Debbie and Mr. and Mrs. Laverne Wallace and family attended the Wallace reunion at Russeldale on Saturday. Mrs. Sadie Scbti, and her sister, Mrs. H. McDougald, visited on Wed- nesday with Mrs. Belle McEwen in Exeter. Mrs. T. L. Scott, Presbyterial visitor of the WMS, visited the Glengowan Society on Tuesday. Mrs. M. Houghton and Frank Stagg visited in Mitchell with Mr. and Mrs. Earl Rose and family and were present at a family re- union. Mrs. Ken McKellar was pleas- antly surprised on Sunday when several members of her family gathered to celebrate with her on her 75th birthday. We wish her many more happy years. Mr. Lin McKellar, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Ferg McKellar and family, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. Ross Houghton at Stratford. GROUP IV, WA Group 4 of the WA of North- side United Church met at the home of Mrs. Joe Dill in Dublin on Friday. Mrs. J. O. Turnbull, the president, opened the meeting with a poem, and Mrs. J. Bach took charge of the devotional part. An enjoyable program followed, con- sisting of: Piano solo, . There were 17 members and nine visitors present. The roll call was answered by naming your father's hobby. The president took charge of the business. Mrs. J. C. Britton gave a report on the amal- gamation meeting. Mrs. Struthers, of Mitchell, was the guest speaker. Her subject, "God's Stillness and Ours," was both interesting and inspiring. Refreshments were served by the committee in charge. Mrs. Hudson thanked the speaker and Mrs. Dill for the use of her home. A bylaw setting the tax' rate, at the same time increased penalties to 1% per month and interest en unpaid taxes, to 2/3% of one per cent a month. An opinion is to be obtained as to when the new penalties come into effect. Approval was given an agree- ment to provide that the Legion could have use of accommodation in the arena under certain emerg- ent conditions. Approve Allowance Council gave final approval to a bylaw setting a retiring allowance of $100 a month for Clerk D. 11 Wilson, who recently resigned. The allowance provided for in chapter 240 of the Municipal Act, is ef- fective on his retirement in Aug- ust. He has served since 1937. A special meeting of council will be held on June 20 to open and consider applications for the position. Mayor Daly said 10 appli- cations had been received. (*Aft!
