FRIENDS, NEIGHBOR$ GATHEVAS
FAMILY LEAVES FOR NEW HOME
Neighbors and friends, including
the 9th Concession of Morris and
Bundary, gathered at the home of
Mr. and Mrs. George McArthil
Wednesday evening for a farewell
party prior to Mr. and Mrs. Mc-
Arthur moving to Seaforth.
Progressive euchre was played
with nine tables at play. Prizes
were won by Mrs. Allen Searle,
high lady; Mrs. Walter Shortreed,
low lady; Harvey McClure, gent's
high; Nelson Reid, gent's low.
The presentation of a table lamp
and magazine rack was made by
Mr. Allan Searle and Mr, Allan
McCall to Mr. and Mrs. Arthur
and Brenda Bewley presented
Cathie Somers, a granddaughter,
with a locket.
Mr. Walter Shortreed read the
following address: "To the Mc-
Arthur Family: Much water, in-
deed, has passed under the McAr-
thur and McCall Creek bridges
since Peter McArthur, a merchant
from Argyleshire, Scotland, pur-
chased the crown deed for Lot
South Half No. 22, Concession 9,
in March, 1862. Here, just about
100 years ago, he established a
home for the McArthur family,
which has remained in that name
ever since.
"Therefore, it is with deep re-
gret that we gather tonight to re-
cognize that this long association
of the McArthur name with Mor-
ris Township is to be broken. But
whether it is altogether to our lik-
ing or not, we must submit to the
changes which time and failing
health bring t us all, sooner or
later.

'In a diary which records the
life of this community 85 years
ago, we find several references to
the men of the McArthur family.
One of these reads: 'John McAr-
thur is building a new houke of
pine boards. It has very fine doors
and windows.' This tradition of
good workmanship has endured
through the year, not only on the
farm where well -tilled acres and
good livestock were a result of
many hours of toil, but in the
church organizations and choir, as
well as other community affairs,
you have both been active and
valued workers and will be great-
ly missed.
"We are glad, however, that you
are not going too far away and are
quite sure that your good black
Ford will often be back over the
fainaliar road. Along with our
very best wishes for your health
and happiness in Seaforth, we ask
you to accept these gifts. Signed
on behalf of your Neighbors and
Friends."
A social time was spent and
lunch served by the ladies, Mr.
and Mrs. Ray Huether, who have
purchased the farm, also attend-
ed. They are at present residing
in Holmesville.
