HONOR AREA COUPLES -
MARKING 40th ANNIVERSARIES
The immediate family of Mr. and
Mrs. Dave McLean, RR 3, Sea -
forth, as well as Mr. and Mrs.
W. L. Whyte and Mr, and Mrs.
George Blake, held a family gath-
ering for a turkey supper on Fri-
day in honor of Mr, and Mrs. Mc-
Lean's 40th wedding anniversary.
The couple was, presented with
gifts and cards.
Later in the evening a party was
held at the Legion Hall, with 22
tables playing euchre. Winners
were: ladies' high, Mrs, Art Fin-
layson; gents' high, Andy Crozier;
ladies' consolation, Mrs. Robert
Charters; men's consolation, Wil-
fred Coleman.
During the evening Mr. and Mrs.
McLean were called to the front
when Art Nicholson gave a few
well-chosen words' and introduced
Bill Forrest, who read the address.
Alex Boyes presented Mrs. Mc-
Lean with a pearl and ruby ring
and Mr. McLean with a wrist
watch, as well as a purse of money
for them both. The honored guests
gave a very fitting reply.
Winthrop Shuts
Out Blyth 7-0
Winthrop Warriors shut out Blyth
7-0 in a WOAA Intermediate
hockey game in Seaforth on Tues-
day night: Winthrop goaltender,
Hugh Flynn, recorded his first
shutout of the season, and the
first shutout to be recorded by
any team in this group thus far.
The first period was scoreless
until the 16:00 minute mark, when
the Warriors hit for two goals be-
fore it ended, ' to lead 2-0. First
period goals were scored by Tom
Love and George Love.
In the second period Tom Love
scored his second goal, and Ken
McClure notched one, as the War-
riors led 4-0 as the period closed.
In the third period, Winthrop
scored three goals, two by Bill
Kerr and Ken McClure got his sec-
ond goal of the night. Hugh Flynn
turned aside many scoring threats
and kept the Blyth team off the
score -sheet for the entire 60 min-
utes.
Seven penalties' werd.)landed out
by referees George Hildebrand and
Jack Lee, with Winthrop serving
four and BIyth three.
The next Winthrop home game
will be Feb. 14, when Atwood will
be the opposition. This will be the
last scheduled e uled home game before
the play-offs,

Winthrop downed Blyth 6-3, in
Blyth on Friday night, The score
was 2.2 at the end of the first
period, and Blyth led 3-2 after the
second, The Warriors came on
strong in the third, to rap in four
goals, to take the game 6.3. Geo.
Love and Ron McClure led Win-
throp with two goals each; singles
went to Jim Strong and Ray Pow-
ell. For Blyth, Lawrie scored two
and Elliott got one.
Young Liberals
Set New Committee

At their monthly meeting the
Huron Young Liberal Association,
Seaforth branch, adopted a reso-
lution favoring retention of capi-
tal punishment. Carried 10 to 8,
the resolution will be forwarded
to Young Liberal headquarters.
The meeting named a Political
Action committee to study, com-
pare and report on the other politi-
cal .parties in Canada. Cary Wil-
liams is chairman; Terry Ford,
vice-chairman, and Henry Lansink,
secretary, of the committee.
A delicious lunch, with real cof-
fee, was served at the conclusion
of the meeting by Mrs. Lloyd
Rowat.
After a delicious lunch was serv-
ed, dancing was enjoyed with
music supplied by Harburn's orch-
estra.
Mr. and Mrs. Adin Forbes
A family dinner was held Satur-
day at the home of Mr, and Mrs.
Ken Forbes, 139 Union Blvd., Kit-
chener, in "honor of his parents,
Mr. and Mrs. Adin Forbes, of
Egmondville, who celebrated eir
40th wedding anniversary Feb, 2.
There were 25 present for the ev-
ent.
Mr. and Mrs. Forbes were mar-
ried at the home of her parents,
the late Mr. and Mrs. James Smith,
on the 10th of McKillop. She is
the former Leila Smith. Mr.
Forbes is a son of the late Mr.
and Mrs. Samuel Forbes, of the
14th of McKillop.
Following their marriage Mr.
and Mrs. Forbes farmed in Mc-
Killop for a number of years, mov-
ing to Egmondville in 1944.
Their family of one son and eight
daughters includes: Mrs. Ross
Thkrell (Gladys), Toronto; Mrs. Art
Parker (Avis) and Mrs. Wes
Coombe (Phyllis), Seaforth; Verna,
of Niagara Falls; Leona, of Lon-
don; Marlene, of Collingwood;
Thelma and Lynda, at home, and
Kenneth, Kitchener.
In addition to members of their
family, Mrs, Andrew Coutts, Wal-
ton; and Mrs. Adrian Hogg, Col,
lingwood, sisters of Mrs. Forbes,
attended the anniversary dinner.
