Hensall and Area Sch�ols
Present Christmas Concerts
On Thursday afternoon, Dec. 22,
the Hensall Public School pupils
completed their first term of the
school year with a concert at the
school. The pupils assembled in
the foyer of the school and each
class contributed a portion of the
program. The Grade 1 class, un-
der the direction of Mrs. Elgie,
presented square dance number
and a song, while Mrs. Shirray's
class presented two musical num-
bers, "The Toyland Band" and
"Little Red Riding Hood's Christ-
mas Tree." Mr, Mansfield's Grades
3 and 4 classes presented a mush
cal number, and Mrs. Haugh's
class sang, "That's What I Want
For Chrirstmas." Musical numbers,
"Silver Bells" and "Root -in -Toot -
in' Santa Claus," were sung by
Grades 7 and S.
After the program the classes
returned to their ' classrooms,
where gifts were exchanged and
the children enjoyed the fellow-
ship of one another.
SS 10, Hay, Concert
The annual Christmas party of
SS 10, Hay, held Wednesday, Dec.
21, in the school, was largely at-
tended by the pupils and their par-
ents. BruceiShirray was chairman
for the splendid program, arrang-
ed by the teacher, Mrs. E. Norm-
inton, an.d consisted of recitations
by Jim Campbell, Bradley Pryde,
Kathy Munn, Roddy Chapman,
Douglas Munn and Freddie Elder;
dialogues, "Cook and the Cookies"
and "Good-bye"; choruses, "Call-
ing Santa Claus," "Mister Christ-
mas Tree" and "Merry Christ-
mas"; a lullaby by six girls; a
selection, "Why Do Bells For
Christmas Ring?" by six, boys;
songs, Margaret and. Minnie Rouse -
boom; part songs "Santa Lucia,"
"My Own True Friend" and "Sil-
ent Night"; song, "Christmas and
Little Donkey"; jokes by Barrie
Mousseau; rhythm exercises; piano
solos, Miss Katherine Gackstetter,
who- also accompanied for the
musical numbers.
SS 1, Tuckersmith
Billy Bell chaired the annual
Christmas concert of SS 1, Tuck-
ersmith, on Thursday afternoon,
under direction of the teacher,
Mrs. Laurabelle Reichert, Lovely
decorations in Yuletide motif form-
ed an attractive setting.

Girl Guides Hold Party
Hensall First Company Girl
Guides held their Christmas party
in the schoolroom of the United
Church Tuesday evening, Dec. 20,
under the direction of Capt. Jessie
Cameron and Lt. Pat Rowe, who
had as their guest Mrs. Greta Lav-
ender, District Commissioner.
Each patrol presented a Christ-
mas skit, with Cathy Scane, lead-
er of her patrol, as winner, having
composed the skit herself.
Instead of the usual exchange
of gifts, a collection of $5.50 was
received, which will be forwarded
to the Muscular Drystrophy fund,
Lunch was served.
In the window judging contest,
Douglas Munn was the winner.
Santa distributed gifts and treats
and refreshments were served.

A waltz -length gown of white
Chantilly lace and net was chosen
by the bride. The fitted bodice
was designed with square neck-
line and the aisle -wide skirt fea-
tured tiers of net ruffles. A cor-
onet of sequins held her shoulder -
length illusion veil, and she car-
ried a white Bible crested with a
gardenia, pink roses and fern.
Miss Judy Finkbeiner, sister of
the groom, was maid of honor,
and bridesmaid was Miss Olive
Martin. Their gowns were of
mauve nylon organza over nylon
net.
Ross Wein, RR 2, Crediton, at-
tended the groom. Guests were
ushered by Ralph Finkbeiner, of
Crediton, and Eugene Bender, of
Varna.
A fur jacket topped the bride's
green wool travelling dress, On
their return the couple will reside
in Hensall.

were Christmas guests with Mr.
and Mrs. Albert Keys, Exeter.

Mr. Milton Love underwent a
major operation in Victoria Hospi-
tal, London, on Wednesday, Dec.
21, and is doing as well as can be
expected.
Winners of two large turkeys in
a draw at the Arena Tuesday eve-
ning, sponsored by the Hensall
Curling Club, were Percy Webster
and Mrs. Howard Scane. Mrs. Ken
Parker drew the winning tickets.

Bend, exchanged marriage vows
at the home of the bride's par-
ents. Rev. Hugh C. Wilson per-
formed the ceremony before a set-
ting of candelabras, ferns and
white mhms. Miss Agnes Bray,
RR 1, Kirkton, played the wedding
music and accompanied the solo-
ist, Miss Dorothy Parker, who
sang "Because" and "Bless This
House."
Given in marriage by her father,
•the bride wore a waltz -length gown
of French velvet. The fitted bodice
featured a sabrina ,neckline trim-
med with seed pearls and lily -
point sleeves. A , crown of pearls
held her finger-tip veil of illusion
net. She carried a cascade of pink
roses.
Mrs. Donald McCurdy, Exeter,
as matron of honor, and Miss Ann
Alexander, sister of the bride, as
bridesmaid,., were gowned alike in
sherry red velvet, and carried bou-
quets of white mums.
Dennis Fihan, Sarnia, was best
man, and Richard Manore, Grand
Bend, ushered guests.
• The bride's mother chose for her
daughter's wedding a brocaded li-
lac ensemble with matching acces-
sories, and the groom's mother
wore a mink brown dress. A re-
ception was held at Armstrong's
Restaurant, Exeter.
For a honeymoon in the United
States, the bride donned a powder
blue wool dress and mink trimmed
blue coat with corsage of red ros-
es and white mums. The couple
will reside in Halifax, N.S.
The groom is a graduate in En-
gineering from Queen's University,
Kingston.

White Gift Service at St. An-
drews United Church was held
Dec. 18 with a junior choir of the
Sunday School taking part. Gary
Anderson gave a recitation; Joan
Sinclair and Grant Jones sang a
duet, "0 Holy Night." Gifts of
money were presented by the chil-
dren of the Sunday School. Gwen-
neth Hendrick read the Christmas
story, "Sam, Kitchen Boy of Beth-
lehem Inn." The junior choir sang
"When They Saw the Star." The
church was tastefully decorated by
Mrs. Emerson Kyle and Mrs. Ed-
gar McBride,

School Concert. SS 2
The pupils of SS No. 2, Tucker -
smith, held their Christmas party
on Friday afternoon, Dec. 16. The
program was under the direction
of their teacher, Miss D. Turner.
Robert Cooper was chairman of
the program, which consisted of a
recitation by Joan Finkbeiner;
choruses by the Juniors, "Polly,
Put the Kettle On," -"hickory, Dick-
.ory, Dock," "Away in a Manger";
a Christmas story by Al Kyle;
choruses by the senior boys, "Rud-
olph" and "Red Cheeks and White
Whiskers"; dialogue, "A Great
Saving," by Al Kyle and Joan Sin-
clair; choruses by the junior boys,
"Old King Cole" and "Santa
Claus"; trio by Barbara McNichol
and Karen Littleton, "White
Christmas" and "Silver Bells."
Several Christmas carols were
sung and contests enjoyed. The
pupils received gifts , and candy
from the nicely decorated tree.
Mr. and Mrs. Ivan Wren and
daughter, Laurie, of Hanover, vis-
ited on Friday evening with Mr.
and Mrs. Gordon Wren.
Mr. Don Kyle, of Calgary, re -
and daughter-ih-law, Mr. and Mrs.
Harry Cook and family, at Oak-

Mr. 'and Mrs. Ross MacMillan

Grant Walker, Gordon Deitz and
Bill Taylor each scored twice Fri-
day night to lead Hensall to a 9-0
victory over Zurich in a Shamrock
peewee hockey league game. Ken
Smale, Bevan Bonthron and Mich-
ael Hoy scored the other goals.
Keith Haven registered his first
shutout of the season.

the former's mother, Mrs. George
T. Mickle, Ridgetown.
Mr. Gordon Love visited over
the Christmas vacation with his

Bill Clement and Bill Fuss for the
Kinsmen.

mas holiday with his wife and
family at Clinton RCAF Station.

Mr. Bonthron predeceased her
some years ago. Surviving are one
son, Harold, Hensall; one daugh-
ter, Jean, Mrs. M. B. Greer, Lon-
don; two sisters, Lillian, Mrs. Nor-
man Peppier, Hanover; Rose, Mrs.
J. M. Hell, Pittsburg, Pa; one
brother, Wes, Hamilton, and four
grandchildren, Brian, Bevan, Jan-
ice and Shelley Bonthron, Hensall.
Rev. G. C. Vais, of Galt, offici-
ated for public funeral services
held from the Bonthron Funeral
Chapel, Hensall, ' on Wednesday,
Dec. 20th, paying high tribute to
the life of the deceased. Inter-
ment was in Exeter cemetery.
There were many lovely floral tri-
butes.
Pallbearers were George Ingram,
W. It. Dougall, George Hess, R. J.
Drysdale, P. L. MacNaughton and
Ed. Munn.
MRS. .JAMES BONTHRON
HENSALL — Mrs. James Bon-
thron ,of London, formerly of
Hensall, died suddenly in Victoria
Hospital, London, on Monday ,De-
cember 26, from a 'severe heart
seizure she suffered on Christmas
Day. The former Bertha M. Yung-
blut, she was born in Auburn and
had been a resident here for 45
years, until two years ago when
she took up residence in London.
During her life here she utas an
active member of Carmel Presby-
terian Church, associated with va-
rious church organizations and
held offices in the Women's Mis-
