Items in The Years Agone from, November 18, 1910: The old- Reli- able Guy Brothers Minstrels will appear in Cardno's Hall this Fri- day evening and will, no doubt, draw the usual large crowd." Guy Brothers Minstrels, as old- timers will recall, were for many years regular visitors to Seaforth, appearing for one night in Cardno's Hall, about the middle of Novem- ber. They rated well up in the minstrel world and kept their shows at a high standard. Promptly at 12 o'clock the day of the show the doors of Cardno's Hall opened and out came Guy Brothers for their noon street par- ade—every man faultlessly dress- ed in tailored overcoat, shiny silk hat, white gloves and with a white carnation in his buttonhole. A drum major with a shiny baton in each hand led off up the middle of Main Street, followed by a bandsman with a large silver bass horn up one side of street and a trombone player up the other. There were no cars—neither park- ed or moving—to hinder the par- ade, and most horses were home for noon. Back "about half a block followed two horn players and an- other half block was the two-man cornet section. Behind the band, in file up each side, and equally well spaced, marched the rest of the company. Then one cornet player raised his instrument and lead off with a short flourish which was repeated successively by each instrument ending with a rumble on the bass horn about a block away. Then another little flourish on, the cornet, up went the drum major's batons in two high glittering spins and when they came down the whole band was in action—fast and loud. And how that band did play! Only six men, but sounding like sixty. And, above it all the clear notes of a cornet, high and shrill, with a compelling beat that carried mel- ody and rhythm and time for the whole parade. • The player march- ed along with his horn in one hand, the other hand in the pocket of his overcoat, and with no apparent effort climbing higher and higher in the upper register of his instru- ment. Up to the Royal corner went the parade, counter march and' back to the front of Cardno's Hall where the band formed into a circle for a short concert.' An instrumental solor or two, a brief overture and then an operatic selection, ending with "Orpheus" at double speed. And then back into the Hall. At the evening show the curtain went up on the entire company in evening dress singing the "open- ing chorus. Then Mr. Interlocu- tors, "Gentlemen, Be Seated", the entrance of the endmen with song and walk -around, male quartette with "Old Black Joe"; Albert Guy with "Last Rose of Summer"; the bass with "Bells of the Sea" and Harry Prince, the silver -throated tenor with "Silver Threads Among the Gold" (by special request); then the closing chorus, "Dixie." A second part followed with some juggling, step dancing, a contor- tionist, a musical act and a slack wire artist. Then a short one -act play featuring several characters, brought the show to a close. The Guy Brothers Minstrels made their Last appearance in Sea - forth in 1914. The street parade came off with all the old-time snap and the band played the few numbers of their concert. Then they raised their instruments for another number, struck a chord and held it—a brief pause, and they 1r 1)r4'w'r;t'rw'i 1Vie' ;w1ifra r;- EgatfaMMCVM r col HAUGH'S OVERALLS Regular 6.25 . .5.79 HAUGH'S LINED SMOCKS Regular 7.95 6.95 HAUGH'S or WALKER'S First Quality - Men's WORK PANTS 5.19 Regular 5.75 WASHABLE COTTON PRINT TABLECLOTHS Variety patterns, each 52 x 52 1.19 THREE-QUARTER LENGTH RUBBER BOOTS . 3.95 IRONING BOARD SPECIAL PAD and COVER SET 2.65 Regular 4.95 HOOD BRAND Canadian -Made KNEE RUBBER BOOTS 4.25 Regular 6.95 — SPECIAL MEN'S OVERSHOES For Work er Dress—AT MONEY -SAVING PRICES WASHABLE, WATERPROOF CHILDREN'S SNOW MITTENS . 1.19 MEN'S and BOYS' SOX WOMEN'S SEAM and SEAMLESS NYLONS . 99c Top Quality, 51 Guage itiCLIPan IS SSORTH COUPON $1.00 Ibex Flannelette BLANKET New Vat -Dyed Fast Colors Variety Colors Bring this Couponc and Pay Only $5.50 Large Selection CHRISTMAS CARDS and GIFT WRAPPINGS Save 25% on SAMSONITE LUGGAGE Regular 32.50. Grant Mills 'united in marriage Thelma Anne Dale, daughter of, Mr. and Mrs. Arnold Dale, Princess Street, Clinton, and Gerald Whitmore Cox, son of Mr. and Mrs, Carl Cox, Mill Street, Clinton. The bride wore a waltz -length gown of rainbow mauve chiffon over taffeta, with matching jacket, mauve accessories and a corsage of white carnations. The bridesmaid was Miss Kathy Anderson, Kippen, who wore a green wool sheath dress with bronze accessories and matching carnations. Craig Cox was his brother's groomsman, with Douglas Mann, Clinton, signing the register. After the ceremony, the young couple were feted by a group of friends wilt) gathered to bestow best wishes and present them with many beautiful gifts. Also in at- tendance was the Bannockburn Pipe Band, of which the groom is a member. After a wedding trip to South- ern Ontario and the United States, the couple will reside in Clinton, where the groom is employed with his father at the Clinton Body and Radiator Shop. Sales Manager (to applicant for job): "Are you married?" Applicant: "No, but I can take orders, if that's what you mean." broke into "Tipperary," soft and sweet; a brass sextette with the tone of an organ, in that old war- time ballad. Then the concert was over—and an era had ended.
