Trim Tricks For Christmas
Tree Cookies
Decorations may be put on glaz-
ed or plain cookies,
To Make.Glaze—Add just enough
milk ,to two cups of sifted icing
sugar to make an icing which is
a little thinner than spreading con-
sistency. Thi$$ makes about three-
quarter cup of icing. Divide into
three or more portions. Leave one
white and add a few drops 'of food
coloring to others.
To Glaze—Use a soft brush or
knife, brush or spread icing on
cooled cookies. Let dry on a
rack,
To Trim With Sugar or "Shot"
Candies—For plain or glazed tree,
holly or Star cookies, brush entire
surface with light corn syrup, then
dip in colored sugar or tiny 'shot'
candies. For borders, brush edges
of cookies with syrup, then dip. For

Your Doorway and Eaves
Lights in outline form
around a doorway, out-
door candles and light-
ed sprays are highly
successful main en-

trance decorations,
proved over years of
use, Many standing
"specialty" units, such
as Santas, Snowmen, Carolers and
the' like have more recently come
into greater use near front door-
ways.
The eaves of your roof represent
an ideal display point for Christ-
mas lighting, The most common
difficulty in .eave lightipg is a
tendency for lights to sag. Elim-
inate this problem by running the
outdoor Christmas sets through
drive rings 'hammered' into the
eaves at regular intervals up to
the house corners and roof peaks.
The drive rings will carry your
Christmas string of lights in
straight and beautiful lines. out-
lining your home perfectly, (Drive
rings are available at hardware
stores everywhere.) (See Fig. 6.)
Lighting Evergreens Outdoors
Evergreen trees on your front
lawn can be especially appealing
when lighted. Generally, lights of
a single color are preferred oh
outdoor evergreens, For an en-
riched effect, however, try this.
Make your topmost light white,
and mix perhaps two blue lights
with an overall pattern of green
lights.

strings. Pound
stakes into the ground around the
tree, inside the spread of the
branches, at regular intervals.
Then Lead rigid wire up from the
stakes to a point several inches
below the tree -top. Fit a padded
wire collar around the tree stem
at this point and fasten wires to
the collar. (See Fig. 7.)
Your Christmas Lighting
Dealer Can Help
You may haye .found just the
decorating idea you are looking
for. If you have not and have a
problem, discuss it with your lo-
cal Christmas lighting dealer. He
will have information on all new
products and developments. Don't
leave your decorating until the last
minute; start to .plan early while
a full selection of items is avail-
able and avoid the disappointment
of not getting the equipment or
selection you are looking for.
Signs of "Spring"
Although Christmas is just a
month away, November weather
has been pleasantly mild—suffici-
ently so to produce premature
signs of spring, Archie Purdon
