AMERICA'S OLDEST CAPITAL
Which is the oldest seat of gov-
ernment in the United States? The
Book of Knowledge says it is Sante
Fe, New Mexico. It was the capi-
tal of the Spanish colony from
1609 to 1846 and then became the
capital of the Territory of New
Mexico. Today it relies chiefly on
the large tourist trade.
