Council Shows
(Continued from Page 1)
Ball reported.
Approval had been granted a
bread -manufacturer to operate an
advertising merry-go-round in Vic-
toria Park, Councillor John Flan-
nery, chairman of that committee,
told council. There had been no
replies to letters which had gone
out in connection with industrial
property available in the town,
Councillor Cardno said. Data cards
which had been submitted by the
Department of Planning and De-
velopment, with respect to avail-
able industrial accommodation in
Seaforth, had been checked and
returned.
Sign Agreement With OWRC
An agreement with the OWRC,
in connection with the installation
of sewers in the northwest yea of
town, was completed. The commis-
sion advised the town the McLaren
firm had been appointed as con-
sultants on the project. It was this
firm which designed the system
when Seaforth contemplated an ov-
erall sewer project several years
ago.
Dr. Turnbull said an agreement
had been worked out with St.
James' School Board to provide a
sewer connection to the new school
on Chalk Street. The agreement
provides that the board was re-
sponsible r installing a sewer
line running southerly from the
school to the north side of Victoria
Park and along Gouinlock Street
to intersect the existing sewer line
at a point where Gouinlock Street
meets the lane running parallel to
Main Street. The town will pay
the difference between a six and
an eight -inch sewer line, and will
also cover the cost of installing
manholes. When the work is com-
pleted, the line will be taken over
by the town and will be maintain-
ed by the town. Necessary ease-
ments are to be provided by the
board, Under this arrangement;
sewer- service can be made avail-
able to ,properties ,.in the hiack
bounded by Victoria, Goderich,
Chalk and Gouinlock Streets,
Clerk Wilson asked council con-
cerning the application of.frontage
tax, and was assured that pro-
perties affected would be subject
to tax. He foresaw difficulties in
obtaining necessary information.
Answering a query as to the action
that had been taken in the case
of other extensions, such as instal-
lations within the - last year • ,)o
serve the Supertest Station and
"Seaforth Motors, he said that he
wasn't sure whether they had been
assessed for frontage or not.
Plans of the Chamber of Com-
merce to arrange a bigger and
better Christmas parade in Sea -
forth were endorsed by council,
and it was agreed that assistance
in connection 'with lighting would
be provided, as had been done in
previous years.
License Mobile Homes
Council gave approval to a by-
law provided for the licensing of
trailers, within the municipality.
Trailers, up to 25 feet in length,
will be licensed at a fee of $10:
per month, and those units over 25
feet in length will have a rate of
$15 per month applied. In , a. sec-
ond by-law, license fees for bowling
alleys were set at $40 per annum
per establishment.
The clerk was instructed to ob-"
tain information .from the Liquor
Control Board as to an agreement
which the town might enter into
to provide for recovering a portion.
of fines and licenses. He is also t4
obtain information as to the' for-
mation of a police commission._
Councildiscussed steps that
should be taken to fill the vacancy
created by the appointment of
Councillor Daly as Mayor. The
Municipal Act requires that the
vacancy be filled forthwith' by ap,•'
pointment.
