Brower of 101 West 80th Street, New York. Mr. Brown was the son of the late Thomas Brown, of Seaford, arid was born here. While he had been a resident of New York' for many years, he continued an ac- tive interest in the Seaforth dis- trict. He is survived by his .wife, Hel- en L. Brown, and a sister, Mrs. Mixer, of Detroit. EGMONDVILLE John. McDougall, who has been staying with his grandmother, Mrs. Florence Doig, is at present in Toronto with. his mother. They reported a wonderful day. Mr. and Mrs. Burt Waters and family, of Ajax, and Mr. and Mrs. Don Gray and family, of London, were weekend visitors with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Gray. Miss Marion Weiland, of Toron- to, spent the holiday weekend with her mother, Mrs. Harry Weiland, Mr. and Mrs. G. R. Keyes, of Windsor, were at their home here recently. Mrs. J. S. Miss Ruth Ennis was in charge of the guest book at the door. Mrs. Herb Travis acted as chair - lady for the program which was preceded by community singing, with Mrs. Harvey Brown at the piano. Other numbers were: solo, Linda Bryans; duet, Glenna Hous- ton and Caroline Fraser; reading, Mrs. James Smith; duet, Mrs. Jan Van Vliet and Mrs. Doug Fraser; solo, Miss Geraldine Dennis. Mrs. Ronald Bennett read the address; after which the gifts were presented by Anne Achilles, Mary Kirkby, Brenda Houston, Donna Smith and Linda Bryans. Mrs. George Mogk and Mrs. Phillip Rock favored the ladies with a duet, and Mrs. Lloyd Pfeifer with a reading; also Mrs. Ford Dicki- son and Mrs. Fred Rose gave readings. Mrs. Elmer Koehler sang a solo. Mrs. A. M. Amacher thanked Mrs. Gibson and Mrs. Irvin Rock presented her with, a gift. A delicious lunch was serv- ed by the McKillop ladies. While in Toronto she is staying with her aunt, Yrs. Edythe L. Wallace. Mr. and Mrs. Jeffrey Hughes, of Toronto, visited on Sunday with Mr. and Mist James McEwing and Kathleen. Mr. and Mrs. Don Watt, of Osh- awa, and Mr. and Mrs. Archie Watt and family, of Ottawa, spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Leo Watt. The junior choir of Burns' Church rendered a lovely anthem on Sunday for the special Domin- ion Day service. A duet was also sung by Misses Linda •and Doreen Riley. Societies Meet The June meeting of Burns' Church WMS was held at the home of Mrs. Robert Jamieson Thursday evening. Mrs. George Carter open- ed the meeting. The Bible study was from the Book of Acts. A love- ly solo was sung by Mrs. Salverdo. A reading, "Meditation on the Power and the Presence,",• was read by Mrs. Bert Hoggart. Miss Gladys Leiper gave.,the stu- dy book on the chapter entitled, "The Drift," stating that many of the tribal beliefs are dying out With the people of Africa. Many men are seeking jobs in industry in the cities, while the women are left at home with the full responsi- bility, meaning that many families are parted, thus creating varied problems. Christian Circle meet- ings are a great source of cour- age. The church has a great re- sponsibility to keep and lift the faith of the African people. Miss Marilyn Taylor gave a piano instrumental. A Letter was read from the Bible Society by Miss Ida Leiper, stating that the name had been changed to the Canadian Bible Society. An in- crease of $50,000 had been receiv- ed Last year. Mrs. Robert Jamie-• son read a paper on Refugee Year, and Miss Doreen Riley sang a lovely solo, "Beautiful Garden of Prayer." The offering was receiv- ed. Mrs. Hills and Mrs. George Smith read -passages of Scripture. Miss Gladys Leiper closed the meeting with prayer. Mrs. Wesley Roe presided over the business. The roll call was an- swered; Mrs. George Watt read the minutes of the last meeting,' and Mrs. George Smith gave the treasurer's report. A bale is • to be packed in September. Articles are to be brought to the August meeting. The Baby Band and Mis- sion Band will be entertained at the July meeting in Hai'lock School., All groups are to.help with lunch. Mrs. Roe closed with prayer. The president, Mrs. John Riley, presided for the WA meeting, op- ening with the WA theme hymn and prayer. Mrs. George Watt read the minutes of the las•timeet- ing, and the treasurer's report was given. The WA are to buy some new hymn ,books with music for the choir. .Mrs. Riley closed with prayer. Visiting Sister', I, Murray Stricken Stricken as he wss visiting at the home of his sister, Mrs, Elliott Walters, Market Street, Seaforth, on Friday evening, Nial Murray, Medera, California, died shortly afterwards. He was in his 69th year. A native of Tuckers'i.1th, he was a son of the late,Mr. and Mrs. John Murray, • He had driven from Medera, ar- riving in Seaforth June 27, and had planned to spend some time visit- ing in the area. Be and his sister were arranging a short trip as the first step in his holiday program, when death occurred. Mr. Murray was a banker, and for a number of years lived in Seattle. He was a veteran of the First World War. He was a member of the Masonic Order and of the Presbyterian Church. A short service, conducted by Rev. J. C. Britton, was held in. the Box Funeral Chapel on Saturday, following which the remains were forwarded to Seattle, Wash., for interment.
