location. He is walking with aid
of crutches, and we hope he will
soon return to his nortnai condi-
tion.

spent last Wednesday with Mr.
and Mrs. Charles Dexter.
Mr. and Mrs. Earl Lawson spent
last Friday in London.
Mr. Frank Riley and Mr. and
Mrs. Tem Riley, of Clinton spent
the weekend with Mr. and Mrs.
Robert Woods and Debbie, Ajax.
Mrs. Frank Riley, who had spent
the past week with her daughter

Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs.
Nottingham were former residents
of this community, and friends
were glad to renew their acquaint-
ances. They have called on Mr.
and Mrs. Walter Scott Sunday eve-
ning and on Monday called on Mr.
and Mrs. William Jewitt and fam-
ily, and on Thursday evening Mr.
and Mrs. Nottingham will show
their films in the basement of the
church, showing their home,
friends and acquaintances in Bri-
tish Columbia.
Mr. and Mrs. J. Davidson and
Andrew, of Seaforth, and Mr. Bert
Gibbings, Clinton, were Sunday
visitors with Mr. and Mrs. Earl
Lawson.
EGMONDVILLE WA - WMS
Egmondville WA and WMS met
at the church for their June meet-
ing with Mrs. Elmer Cameron,
president of the WA, in the chair.
The devotional entitled, "The Fruit
of the Spirit," was taken by Mrs.
Ivan Forsyth. Arrangements were
made for the church picnic in
July.
Mrs. Ed. Boyce chaired the WMS
part of the meeting, using as the
them, "This is the---Victor-y That
Overcomes the World." A letter
from Miss Frances Houston, post-
marked Moose Jaw, was read. The
ladies were reminded of the invi-
tation to Brucefield church on June
7. Mrs. W. Forrest read a chap-
ter from the Home Missions Digest
which showed how the United
Church •workers help New Cana-
dians on their arrival at Canadian
ports. Miss Mae Smith and Mrs.
R. Lee favored with a vocal duet.
A chapter from the study book
on Africa .was well taken by Mrs:
M. Haney: She outlined the work
being done in Africa by radio,
films and art. Mrs. Boyes closed
the meeting with prayer. Lunch
was served by group four, with
Mrs. William Cameron and Mrs.
Doug Wallace as hostesses.

having measured the majestic elm
that grows beside our clubhouse
and that four feet from the ground
it has a circumference of 14 feet
6 inches. Club members are won-
dering if this could be another re-
cord for Seaforth, and speaking
of records, Karel Buys was again
a winner in the second event of
the season, held on Tuesday eve-
ning, May 31, the results of which
were as follows:
Ladies' high, first, Sadie Hart;
second, Mae Habkirk (can't figure
this one?); men's high, first! Karel
Buys; second, Bev. Christie (we
are getting tired of repeating this
name).

At an executive meeting of the
men's division it was decided to
move •the all men's bowling ni t
to every Tuesday evening, ra er
than Monday night.

Our treasurer reports that our
caretaker, Bob McF.adzean; is now
in his 16th year with the club—a
big bouquet for Bob, because it is
only through his knowledge and
faithfulness that the greens are in
such good condition and rated .the
best in Western Ontario.

A big drive is being undertaken
by the men of our club for. new
members, and each member has
pledged himself to induce old in-
active members, as well as new
prospects, to become active par-
ticipants of this relaxing and en-
joyable pastime.
"4-'11 BEEF CLUB
The May meeting of the Seaforth
4-H Beef Club was held at the
home of Donald Horne, Winthrop.
'Two classes of Hereford cattle
were judged by the members. The
June meeting will be held at the
home of Wm. Turnbull, Brussels,
on June 9.
4-H SWINE CLUB
The Seaforth 4-H Swine Club
held their June meeting at the
:farm of Gordan Papple. Members
judged a class of Yorkshire sows
and' gave their placing and reas-
ons to their leader, Robt. E. Mc-
Millan. Allan Morgan showed a
film on swine and spoke on the
care and feeding of the herd. •
• Kenneth Gemmell took charge
of the business part of the meet-
ing. Mac Stewart thanked the
speaker, and Gary Jewitt thanked
the Papples.

The funeral of William D. Pat-
terson, 56, of Grand Forks, N.D.,
formerly Of Vargo, was held at 10
a.m. Saturday in First Presbyter-
ian Church, of Fargo, N.D. • The
Rev. W. W. Strahl officiated, with
burial in River-
side Cemetery,.

Mr. Patterson
died Wednes-
day, June 1, in
a Grand Forks
hospital after a
short illness.
He was born June 23, 1904, at
Enderlin; N.D., the son of Mrs.
Jennie Patterson and the late John
A. Patterson, and grew to man-
hood in Canada, where he moved
with his mother after his father's
death.
He then moved to Sheldon, N.D.,

Mr. and Mrs. Dan Knechtel, of
Vancouver, spent a couple of days
with Mr. and Mrs. T. Dundas and
Mr. and Mrs. George Dundas, also
other relatives and friends. Mr.
Knechtel spent his boyhood days
on the 14th concession of McKil-

Mrs. Ed. Dugan returned home
Saturday from Wingham Hospital,
where he has been a patient for
theast 10 weeks.
Mrs. Thomas Williamson under-
went an operation in Stratford
Hospital last Friday.
A number from here attended
the graduation exercises of the
Kitchener -Waterloo Hospital School
of Nursing at Kitchener on Satur-
day afternoon, when Miss Ruth
Ennis was one of the graduates.
The June meeting of the WA of
Duff's United Church was held in
the church basement Thursday af-
ternoon with Mrs. N. Reid, first
vice-president, in charge. T h e
meeting opened with a hymn, with
Mrs. D. Watson at the piano. The
Scripture, taken from Ephesians
5:1-14, was read by Mrs. C. Rit-
chie, and •comments on it given by.
Mrs. Reid. Mrs. Ron Bennett gave
the secretary's report and Mrs. A.
Coutts reported . on the finances.
It was decided, to carry on with
the weddings as it has been, with
no difference in price for children.
Mrs. W. Turnbull chose "A Medi-
tation on the Power and the Pres-
ence" for the WMS meeting: The
roll call was answered by naming
a parable of the Bible. The Com-
munity Fellowship secretary, Mrs.
C. Ritchie, read an interesting
passage on changes of East Asia.
The WMS decided to send a dele-
gate to Alma College. Mrs. D.
Buchanan took the topic from,
"Africans Disturbed," on thb chap-
ter of Labour, Land, Cash and
Law. The next topic will be given
by the McKillop Group. The meet-
ing closed with prayer.

going to Fargo in 1934 where they
resided until 1951.
He moved to Grand Forks in
1954 from Minot, N.D. He was with
Butler Machinery Co., formerly Da-
kota Tractor and Equipment Co.
Surviving besides his wife are
two daughters, Mrs. Shirley Kra-
mer, Grand Forks N.D., and Mrs.
William (Mary) Abel, Kansas City,
Mo.; his motier
, Mrs. Jennie Pat-
terson, Seaforth, Ont.; a brother,
G, Elgie Patterson, Blue Ridge,
Alta.; two sisters, Mrs. R. K. Mc-
Farlane, Seaforth, and Mrs. W. C.
Bennett, Clinton, and four grand-
children. •
Mr. Patterson was past master
of East Gate Lodge No. 120
AF & AM and of the Scottish Rite
of the El Zagal Temple of Fargo.
He was a 32nd degree Mason.

held their meeting on Saturday,
with Murray McClure presiding.
