Seaforth Lions marked the 35th
}anniversary of the founding of the
club at a special dinner Wednes-
day evening when accomplish-
melts of the club were reviewed.
The first meeting of the club
was held in January, 1925, when
the charter was presented, and at
the following meeting the club un-
dertook ' the establishment of a
park and swimming pool to serve
the Seaforth district.
How successful this venture has
been is indicated by ,the pictures'
on this page.
Today the Seaforth Lions Club
owns and maintains an eight -acre
Park, through which wind the wa-
ters of Silver Creek, complete with
a new 100x45 swimming pool, with
modern filtration plant; illuminat-
ed ball diamond, and well-equipped
picnic facilities. The park is well
supervised and lifeguards and in-
structors are in attendance during
the summer months. A commo-
dious bathhouse provides dressing
rooms, showers and a well-equip-
ped refreshment counter.
At the upper right is a"view. of
the park, showing the carefully
- tended grounds, the cool waters of
Silver Creek, and in the rear the
large bathhouse.
Lower right is a view of the
modern pool. In 1959 more than
26,000 swimmers took advantage of
the Lions ,pool facilities.
`Highlight of the summer season
is the Lions carnival—a three-day
event that raises funds with which
toassist in 'maintaining the park.
In the picture, upper left, is a por-
tion of the crowd that attended
the 1958 carnival.
Activities for boys and girls oc-
cupy a large place in the Lions
Club program. One of the most
popular eventsis the fish derby,
Hundreds of area children took
part hi the 1957 derby shown in
the middle picture left.
Floodlights, which add much to
the usefulness of the park, were
installed in 1948. The lower pic-
tures on the ,left, show the scene
as the lights were `turned -on for
the first time by the then presi-
dent, James M. Scott.
