to 9:30, to give people an oppor-

Carmel Church Annual
A good number attender the
111th annual congregational meet-
ing of Carmel Presbyterian Church.
on Monday of this week. It was
preceed,ed by a .pot -luck` supper,
prepared by the ladies; The Rev:y
R. G., MacMillan and Mr. G. C.
Vais acted as chairmen.
Mr. Vaisspite of stated that "in
the fact that the congregation was
without a' minister for the first
four months of the year, the work
was maintained by, the faithful-
ness of its members," Mr. Vais
expressed his sincere thanks for
the' warm 'welcome which was ex-
tended to him and to Mrs, Vais
upon their arrival last May, and
for the splendid co-operation which
has prevailed ever --since, • - - -
The,. Kirk Session . commend the
efforts of the Board of Manage-
ment and the Ladies' `Aid for the
several. projects that have been
undertaken and completed during
the past year. E. Munn, treasurer,
reported that Carmel Church had
exceeded its Missionary' allocation
for 1959. Some excellent reports
were heard from the Board of
Management, Mission Band, Church
School, Teen -Age $ible Class,
YYung People's Society, Arnold
Circle, Women's Missionary Socle-
ty, , Ladies' Aid and Choir.
Both the fellowship and these
very heartening reports at the an-
nual meetinggave all a renewed-
ins^piration to set sights for higher
goals in 1960, With the guidance
and example of the minister and
his wife, greater things can .be
accomplished in this ,-coming year
for the work abroad and at home,
the meeting agreed.
Three members of the Board re-
tired and were replaced by B.

ary 23 meeting with the inspection
and opening exercises. The Blue-
bird Patrol conducted a game, af-
ter which the Guides went to their
patrol corners 'where the Second -
Class. Guides learned new work,

For the meeting, Mrs. Lee Webber
conducted the business in the ab-
sence of the president and vice-
president. Mrs. Webber and her
group were in charge of the pro-
gram. A humorous reading ,was
given by Mrs. Mac Hodgins and a
reading on "Margarine," a timely
subject concerning the farmer, by
Mrs. Webber was heard.
At the business period -it was de-
cided to send a public relations
delegate to the officers' confer-
ence, to be held in Guelph in May.
A Social hour of -euchre was enjoy-
ed and winners were: ladies, Mrs.
Gerald McFa1]s and Mrs. Harry
Strang; gents, William Ethering-
ton and Kathryn Oke; lone hands,
Bev Morgan.
The March meeting will be held
in CaveP Church, Exeter, in the

At the March meeting of the.
Ladies' Auxiliary to the Legion,
held Tuesday night, plans were
laid for a canvass commencing
this week for the R'ed Cross for
cash donations.
The group will cater to the Bank
of Montreal official opening Fri-
day; .will attend the cooking school
m Seaforth, March 24, ill -the eve-
ning. Fifteen members attended
the monthly card party for Zone
C-1 at Blyth Wednesday.
President Mrs. Gordon Munn

FUNERALS
MRS, FLORENCE FRANK
Mrs. Florence M. Frank 'died in
Flint, Mich., on February 21, fol-
lowing an illness of two weeks. In
her 55th year, she was the'former
Florence Chesney, and was born
in Seaforth, the daughter of the
late Jane Bullard and Henry Ches-
ney, -
She was married to Arthur
Frank, who predeceased her 18
years ago. 'She is survived by two
brothers, Harry Chesney and Hec-
tor Chesney, of Seaforth, and two
sister's, Mrs. Alice Gilchrist, De-
troit, and Mra. Eva Kerr, Sea -
forth. For many years Mrs. Frank
had been New Era Chip distribu-
tor in Michigan and had success-
fully operated a large business.
Funeral services were held in
Flint on Wednesday, February 24.

MRS. THOMAS JOLLY
HENSALL—Mrs. Thomas Jolly,
the former Rebecca May Hogg,
died at St. Joseph's Hospital, Lon-
don, on Tuesday, February 23, in
her 74th year. Born at Brussels,
Ont., a daughter of the late Mr.
and. Mrs. William Hogg, one sis-
ter (Jennie) Mrs. W. J. Mitchell,
Sask., and brothers James, John
and Harold, all predeceased her.
A former school teacher, having
taught at Sodom, Blyth and in Sas-
katchewan, where she joined her
parents early in the century, she
was married and farmed near
Mossbank, Sask.,until
.1937,193? when
the -family east and took
up
residence, farming near Kippen. In
1946 they retired to Exeter where
she was an active' member of the
Women's Missionary groups, Jun-
ior and Senior, also a Sunday
School teacher in the Exeter Pen-
tecostal Church.
Sheis .survived by her husband,
Thomas; one daughter (Jennie),
Mrs.- Cecil Kipfer, Hensall; three'.
sons, Donald, of Exeter; Harold,
of Scarborough; Nrman, of Sud-
bury, and 12 grandchildren. Mr,
and Mrs. Jolly celebrated their
40th wedding anniversary last
April.
The body rested at the T. Harry
Hoffman funeral home, Dashwood,
,until -Wednesday at 3 p.m., then
at the Pentecostal Church, where
the service was conducted Thurs-
day at 2:00 oclock by Rev. M:
Holmes, Exeter, and Rev. S. M.
Hammond, London. Interment was
ill Exeter cemetery.

juvenile court for Huron, was 'an-
nounced Monday by the attorney -
general's department. Several
weeks ago Mr. Hays was appoint-
ed magistrate.

ever, most farm organizations or
co-ops spend most time and money
promoting their organization or
products.
It was felt that 3 to 5 per cent of
profit of an organization should be
used for adult education. In the
case of non-profit organi2ations, a
larger percentage of their annual
budget should be used.
Some -members liked short cours-
es or workshops and radio an¢ TV
to help farm organizations help
their community, We would like to
see farm organizations take a
problem common to many farm-
ers, such as calf diseases, changes
in herd or farm managerlfent, to
fit lower prices, etc., and invite
authorities to help many farmers
overcome the problem, the group
felt.
