Seaforth has held the mill rate down below that of other district schools, the board member said,' even, though.they added the gym- nasium and ' renovated the old gym into three classrooms. The department says the present school is overcrowded and the board is now considering an addi- tion. The councils concerned have met and looked the situation over, his report continued. Answering questions posed at him, he said that when the addi- tion is completed it would require pore teachers. The school at pres- ent has .20 . pupils over the suggest- ed .nuiriber, and the ..attendance is expected to jump another 50 next year. Queried if the school were to hold rugby on Saturdays instead of weekdays, would there be more time for studies, Mr. McGavin Said a delegation had •thresh'ed out that question and 'voted • against Saturday sports, with the thought that most farm pupils work" on Saturdays. "Do they need rugby?•" fired one ratepayer. "I don't think they do," said the member. Asked if they would need an ex- tra ,bus when additional pupils register, Mr. McGavinsaid that was -hard to answer, assometimes_ a larger' bus solves the problem. Mr. McGavin said it was the cheapest thing the school has, The 'leader has done a good job. Referring to the fine , publicity which the band has brought to the area, Mr. McGavin told of the trip last..fall to the International Plow- ing Match, when the Governor- General called the band to the platform and ,expressed ,congratu- lations to the group. Clerk Eckert didn't agree with - the method of asking councils con- cerned to blindly give their con- Wsent to sell debentures for a.. school hen they can't even see a plan. He also said the department only gave grants of p0,00o a room,` while a few years ago it was $30,000 a ' room. - Russell T. Bolton, Huron County appointee to the board, answered Mr. Eckert. He pointed out that if an ,architect hired to have plans, 'ready 'for councils, and the coun- cils . were to refuse the plans, they would have` --to- pay-- -the--architeetrs fees and hire another. Plans are not fully completed, Mr. Bolton said, but the board was trying to "'build ,the. ,school for $85,000. - There should be a standard plan for all schools, Mr. Eckert con- tinued, and . suggested strong un- ions prevent the department from doing this. Disc s Itgports • (Continued from Page 1) since a number of people have ex- pressed interest in such an ar- rangement. Discussing count Y nlatters Reeve Forsyth, who servos as chairman of the Huron Agricul- ture Committee, said that the county had been faced with ma- jor expenditures in road mainten- ance during • the .past year, and this had resulted in a slight in- crease in the county rates. Road expenditures totalled $1,218,000. This included construction of de- velopment ' roads. of which the province pays 10Q per cent, but for which the county is required to pay 50..per cent of the cost of ac- quiring necessary lands. He said that negotiations were underway which it was- hoped ..would result in the Kippen to Wroxeter county road be designated as a develop- ment road. .County work in the township . included•"'coinpletion bf the Hensall road bridge •and work on the Kippen to Seaforth road. He congratulated township resi- dents who had been successful in various agricultural corhpetitions during the year, •and said that -their-success had -brought helpful publicity to the township, as well as providing an incentive for' oth- ers to improve their knowledge. Answering •a query from the floor as to why taxes were not being collected, Reeve Forsyth said that the proportion of unpaid taxes in Tuckersmith was less than that in the average municipality in Huron.
