Citizenship award winners revealed

The 171st Seaforth Fall Fair is
approaching and the time has
come for the Citizenship Award
winners to be announced.
The Seaforth Agriculture
Society and the Municipality of
Huron East sent out letters to
all the service groups in the
area and asked the public to
nominate who they believe is
the best fit for the award.
The recognition is based on
three individuals who volunteer
their time for sports activities,
civic service or humanitarian
endeavours. Anyone can nomi-
nate an individual for any
category.
The process is lengthy; nomi-
nees are sometimes kept on file
for up to three years just to be
considered.
To create a balance and con-
sistency of new faces, Citizen-
ship Award winners are only
allowed to triumph in each cate-
gory once in their life, and only
one award per year.
For the Service to Sports Award -
Jason Dietz from the Seaforth area
is the one who displayed a signifi-
cant role in the development of
young local athletes.
Dietz is currently the Presi-
dent of the St. Columban Soccer
Club. As well, he is heavily con-
centrated in several female
hockey programs like the Wave,
Huron Heat and Summer
Hockey Teams.
Nicole Marone, treasurer at
the St. Coumban Soccer Club
nominated Dietz, she said he
was instrumental in getting the
clubhouse for soccer
and is dedicated to providing a
top-notch facility for children as
young as three -years -old, along
with men's and women's
leagues.
Dietz contribution has led to
St. Coumban's highest registra-
tion rates in the club's history.
The 2016 Civic Service Award
goes to Bill Scott. He has been an
active member of the Seaforth
Lions Club for more than three
decades and a member of the
Seaforth Community Hospital
Foundation for the past 11 years.
"Scott is a tireless volunteer
throughout the Seaforth Com-
munity. He certainly is not
involved in the community for
the notoriety," said President of
the Seaforth Lions Club, Bryan
Vincent.
Lastly, nominated by Huron
East's economic development
officer, Jan Hawley for the
Humanitarian Award is Maureen
Agar.
"Over the past seven years,
I've had the great pleasure of
developing an enjoyable work-
ing and personal relationship
with Maureen. I've come to real-
ize that she is the real deal,"
stated Hawley.
Agar has been involved in
Huron East/Seaforth Commu-
nity Development Trust since
2004, the Seaforth Business
Improvement Area director for
two terms, Seaforth Country
Classic for seven years and
numerous other sports and vol-
unteered events.
If anybody is looking to congrat-
ulate the three winners, you can
go to the 171st Seaforth Fall Fair at
the Seaforth Agriplex September
15, the dinner starts at 6 p.m.
