To help with financials,
Strategic Plan begins
for rec centres

As youwalkup the stairs in Huron East's
town hall leading up to the council cham-
bers, sharing the wall where pictures of
previous councils over the years and art
work is hung, written motivational sayings
on massive sheets of paper are displayed.
This is all an effort to stop Huron East's
three recreational facilities from poten-
tially falling into anymore financial deficits
seeing as there were $600,000 in total net
losses for 2016 from the trio.
The day before the municipality of
Huron East's October 18 council meeting,
all three of the facilities recreational com-
mittees met with the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture Food and Rural Affairs.
Spearheaded by OMAFRA's Vicki Lass,
the banners on the wall, also known as
"terms of reference" characterized a way
to attract the community, an initiative to
showcase what they have to offer, which is
measurable -the Strategic Plan.
Not having any direction of which way
to go in terms of promoting and revitaliz-
ing Brussels, Morris and Grey Community
Centre, Seaforth & District Community
Centre and the Vanastra Recreation Cen-
tre, council made the decision to contact
the provincial ministry.
This summit, the first of three gather-
ings is a visually inventive approach
brainstormed by all the groups. The writ-
ings were requested by all the commit-
tees to not only stay up to date but also
to indicate to council with proof of what
they were there doing.
"It's all their work and when you put
that visual around, so you can keep
going back to the work that they've
already done, so you get that consist-
ency of thought and it just helps in the
process," stated Lass, OMAFRA's agricul-
ture and rural economic development
advisor.
Lass comes free of charge since the
province grants her services to Huron
East and other municipalities that find
themselves in the same circumstances.
Since the group finished the terms of
reference, in November the same entou-
rage is set to meet and move further in
the pursuit of a fact-finding mission and
vision.
"We are (undertaking) an environ-
mental scan, one thing we can do (is)
call it a PESTO," she said October 20.
"What you're looking at is factors such as
political, environmental factors, social
factors, technical factors and other fac-
tors, that's where the acronym pesto
comes from:'
NOTICE TO ALL RESIDENTS OF THE
MUNICIPALITY OF HURON EAST
PLEASE HELP KEEP THIS WINTER A SAFE ONE
The Council of the Municipality of Huron East requests the cooperation of the ratepayers
regarding the parking of cars and other vehicles, and the depositing of snow on municipal
roads during the period in which snow clearing operations are necessary.
It is an offence under the Highway Traffic Act, Section 170(12) to: "Park or stand a vehicle on a
highway in such a manner as to interfere with the movement of traffic or the clearing of snow
from the highway".
Also, Section 181 states: "No person shall deposit snow or ice on a roadway without
permission in writing to do so from the Ministry or the Road Authority responsible for the
Maintenance of the Road."
Parking is not permitted on any street or road within the Municipality of Huron East
between the hours of 2 a.m. and 6 a.m., from November 1 to April 15. Violators will be
ticketed and may have their vehicles towed and impounded.
Neither the Municipality of Huron East nor the "Snow Plow Operators" will be held responsible
for damage done to vehicles or mailboxes on the Municipal Road Allowance.
Your help and cooperation in these matters is greatly appreciated and will aid in a safer
winter for all.
