The FCC Drive Away Hun-
ger travelled to Seaforth
Public School by tractor on
October 13 to collect food
and other items for the local
food bank. Several partners
helped from the Seaforth
area including, Delta Power
Equipment, who loaned a
tractor and trailer for the
event.
Some 850,000 Canadians
relay on food banks, this
being the 13th year of the
FCC Drive Away, this chari-
table undertaking has put a
substantial dent on those in
need of food. All across the
nation from October 11-14
business and schools join to
help the cause.
According to Lisa Lamont,
relationship management
associate for the Farm Credit
Canada in Clinton said they
have collected 27 million
meals in the past 12 years.
"The kids at Seaforth Pub-
lic School are really into
helping others when they
can. There was a good
amount of food collected
and the local Seaforth Food
bank was happy to receive
it;' stated Lamont.
The FCC's national goal
this year is four million
meals.
Liberals making appearance in Seaforth
SEAFORTH— The Huron -
Bruce Federal Liberal Asso-
ciation is once again open-
ing its doors to the public
and inviting people to attend
the next monthly meeting of
its executive, being held
on Wednesday, October 19
in the Seaforth Agriplex at
140 Duke St., in Sea -
forth. There will be refresh-
ments at 7:30 followed by the
meeting.
Huron -Bruce federal Lib-
erals will also use the occa-
sion to mark the first anni-
versary of the Oct. 19, 2015
federal election victory by
Justin Trudeau's Liberals.
The theme of the evening is
"Real Change - The Way
Forward."
Those who gather for the
event will hear directly from
Prime Minister Justin
Trudeau through a video
message marking the first
anniversary of the election.
The guest speaker for the
evening is Allan Thompson,
who is the communications
chair for the Liberal riding
association and was the par-
ty's candidate in last year's
election, finishing a close
second to the Conservative
incumbent.
Thompson is also the
chair of the ProjectRURAL
task force set up by the Lib-
eral party to explore how to
better connect with rural
communities across Ontario.
Thompson will use part of
his remarks to talk about the
research conducted through
ProjectRURAL and the
report and recommenda-
tions submitted by the task
force.
"The one-year anniversary
of the Liberal party's
national election victory is a
good time to take stock of
the real change that has
been accomplished, but also
to look to the future and the
way forward," Thompson
said. "I think we have to pay
very close attention to how
we move forward and con-
nect better in rural
communities."
At its last biennial meeting
in Winnipeg, the federal Lib-
eral party voted overwhelm-
ingly to update the party's
constitution to do away with
the $10 paid membership in
the Liberal Party of Canada.
Now people can simply reg-
ister as members of the fed-
eral Liberal movement
at www.liberal.ca.
The party is also working
to bolster the local riding
associations, so that they can
build the Liberal movement
in the months and years
leading up to the 2019
election.

around Seaforth and area

On October 4 at about
12:45 a.m. Daniel Bachert
woke up to his house
being pelted numerous
times from obstructions.
Living just outside of
Seaforth, Bachert rushed
outside to see what the
commotion was, and from
his surprise to find a
bunch of gourds scattered
across his property.
He didn't think much of
the turmoil at the time
since it was in the late
hours of the night, so he
went back to sleep.
"In the morning I
noticed a couple had hit
the taillights of my vehi-
cle," said Bachert from
Harpurhey in a phone
conversation October 13,
also adding that he has
not tallied up the dam-
ages, but it's looking to be
about $200-$300.
Bachert mentioned that
he's happy his four chil-
dren are mostly teenagers
because it could have
been a scary situation if
they were younger.
In a Facebook post
Bachert offered the public
a reward if they had any
information relating to the
destructive activity that
victimized many in the
area.
According to Bachert,
"it was pretty widespread
that evening."
The social media post
also said that the culprits
might have been driving a
dark vehicle as their
escape.
Bachert has recently
filed a report to the OPP in
case someone was appre-
hended for similar crimes.
"I'm going to assume
this was the work of some
millennial age individuals
and it begs the question
do you as parents not
know where your kids are
at that hour?" stated in
Bachert's post directed to
the vandals.
If you have any infor-
mation regarding this
crime or any other crime,
call Crime Stoppers at
