HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2016-11-16, Page 12Warden's charity golf tourney raises $9,000 for Habitat for Humanity Darryl Coote Huron County Warden Paul Gowing presented Cheryl Jefferson, executive director of Habitat for Humanity Huron County with a cheque for $9,082.88 Nov. 2 during council. The money was raised this summer during the 5th annual Warden Charity Golf Tourna- ment, which Gowing said it was a "pleasure" to host. "It was quite a great day, I thought. And it was very suc- cessful," Gowing told the chambers that was filled to capacity. "It produce, I think, a great amount of money for the charity of my choice, and that chairity is the Habitat for Humanity here in Huron County." Jefferson said the money is greatly appreciated because "anybody that's done renovations knows that construction is expensive." The non-profit aims to break the poverty cycle through help- ing low income families gain housing through no -interest loan, according to its website. "It's brick and mortar," said Gowing on what the organiza- tion purchases with the money it raises. "It's more than a single dwelling for a single family. It's community building.
