Playing on a somewhat foreign
patch of ice has had no negative
affect on the Huron East Cente-
naires as they had their best per-
formance of the year blanking out
the Lucknow Lancers in Brussels
last weekend.
Migrating two towns over, the
game took place roughly 20 min-
utes north from their home in
Seaforth. But technically Brussels
Morris and Grey Community
Centre is an advantage as it's still
in the municipality. From the
energy and attendance, it wasn't
at all evident that this was the first
time the organization had been
contested, as it was an aggressive
high -scoring game of Senior AA
hockey.
"We wanted to recognize the
rich history of competitive
hockey Brussels has had and
give the local community a
chance to watch," stated the
general manager of the Cente-
naires, Tim McNaughton
through email conversations
November 6.
With such a successful turn-
out, McNaughton said that
although the rest of the regular
season games are scheduled to
be held in Seaforth, he isn't
against the idea of potentially
undertaking this again in the
future.
Outshooting the Lancers
40-25 along with the Cents start-
ing goalie, Jesse Raymond
recording the team's first-ever
shutout since they relocated
from Goderich, made the task of
beating them nearly impossible.
The alteration of captain to
Mark Vandooren from a sugges-
tion from former captain, Bren-
don Merritt reckoned to be a
suitable fit. Regardless, it didn't
factor any change in Merritt's
game though, he scored two
goals while Vandooren managed
to rack up two helpers in their
6-0 win November 5.
"Brendon handed his "C" over
to Mark Vandooren feeling that
Mark was doing an incredible
job of showing a local veteran
presence and leading the team
as he did for so many local Sea -
forth teams over the years and
Brendon thought he could really
learn from Mark to raise his own
leadership skills for the future,"
said McNaughton.
The dumping of the puck and
retrieving it from the defense
helped as well, mentioned
McNaughton while also stating
that the "forwards deserve a lot
of credit for using their speed
and skill to take advantage of
their defence and create oppor-
tunities (and) as well our
defence core deserves a ton of
credit."
It was a more than a physical

game between the two teams,
resulting in two Lancers being
ejected for hits from behind. To
the best of McNaughton's
knowledge it was "completely,"
accidental, he said they are not
notorious for that type of play by
"any means."
The game recognized Sandra
Melady who recently passed
away in a moment of silence.
She was an instrumental local to
the Cents being that her brother
served as the team's captain for
six years.
Up next for the Cents is an
away game against the Tilson-
burg Thunder November 12,
again they are the visitors squar-
ing off versus the Petrolia
Squires November 18, and then
they bring it back to Seaforth in
rivalry battle against the Clinton
Radars at 7:30 p.m.
