A 'colourful' initiative
to spruce up Seaforth

"It's almost like that rainbow.
Colours of the spectrum and at the
end of it, is a big pot of gold. I say
it's Seaforth," said Hawley.
"The method of madness, I was
hoping with these visuals (people
would think), 'Hey you've got a
golf course. Okay, you've got fit-
ness centres here. Oh my gosh a
retirement community, maybe I'll
stop my car and spend some time
here.."'
Since Hawley had a lot of the
previous hardware from the first
string of banners, the most
recent mission costs were a
third of the last project. This
time around, the luring posters
that were all paid for by the
HESCDT cost about $4,000,
compared to the $15,000 it did
six years prior. Hawley calls the
images a 'unique outdoor art
gallery,' and expects guests to do
a right or left down Main Street,
instead of the typical straight
drive thru.
"A picture is worth a thousand
words, that's what the whole idea
behind the banners (is). I needed
to present a dynamic visual," Haw-
ley said.
She added that most of the
photos selected originated from a
collection of roughly 15,000
images that a professional pho-
tographer has taken in the last
eight years.
Seaforth Ward Coun. Bob
Fisher said he's heard nothing
but positive comments from
ratepayers relating to the banner
project.
"I'm a firm believer that colour
vitality will spruce up your com-
munity," Fisher said.
"We did it years ago on Main
Street and we were quite suc-
cessful. It went kind of in a lull
and now Jan has re -introduced it

St. Columban. Grade 1 students from the school got the chance
to look inside the main control turbine and ask questions on the
field trip as part of its energy unit. The students also visited a
solar farm as part of the trip.
