It has also resulted in just about 90,000 residents having to abandon everything they know and love. Not only were human lives affected, but pets as well. The Grade 1-2 class at Sea - forth Public School recog- nized the hardships the Albertan 'furry friends' are facing. Shannon Nelson, the Grade 1-2 teacher at Seaforth Public School, said it's an obvious tragedy when kids as young as the ones in her classroom know exactly what's going on, three provinces away. To send some relief, the class started a cupcake bake sale May 16 with all proceeds going towards the pets affected by the blaze. "This is absolutely over- whelming for me. These kids have shown such compassion towards the animals and they are so excited to help them," Nelson said after selling a few cupcakes to staff and students. The class had a vote between helping the animals or the people. Nelson stated that since the youngsters knew the pets would not get as much attention, the group of kids ranging from six to seven years old went with their gut feeling - the pets. Each child was responsible for baking 24 cupcakes where they were sold for 50 cents apiece. "If there are any left, we are going to take them to the board office to see if they would like to donate as well," THE BLUFFS AT HURON A Parkbridge Community Wednesday, May 25, 2016 • Huron Expositor 3 Shaun Gregory To the right is Shannon Nelson, the Grade 1-2 teacher at Seaforth Public School and Grade 2 student Isabella Alexander, 8, collecting money during the cupcake sale May 16. said Nelson.
