When the word recreation is
spoken in Huron East, in terms of
money it is like a curse word or a
dagger in the back of the budget,
but last Tuesday's council meeting
played a different tune. For once it
was more of a small ray of
sunshine.
Lately the three recreational
facilities in Huron East have been
the bearer of bad news when it
comes to exactly how much they
cost to operate. After a further
analysis comparing Huron East to
other municipalities it has been
shown that it actually is not the
case. Huron East's treasurer/
finance manager, Paula Michiels
and the CAO Brad Knight pre-
sented their fellow colleagues
with several bar -graphs to show-
case their findings and they were
not any different from their neigh-
bouring areas. If anything in most
cases they were mediocre.
"I knew from our service deliv-
ery (our initial review) that we
were the bottom three per capita
costs and we were in the middle
on the waited assessment costs
within the county. However we
wanted to expand that, so we went
to Perth County and pulled some
municipalities from there with
similar facilities," stated Michiels.
