It's official, the Hometown
Heroes will faceoff for the
third time on July 21.
MP for Huron -Bruce, Ben
Lobb, announced on March
18 the date of the annual
charity hockey game.
The first two games raised
$90,000 for the Alexandra
Marine and General Hospi-
tal for new equipment, the
Gateway Centre of Excel-
lence in Rural Health and
the YMCA Strong Kids
campaign.
The goal for 2016 is to
raise $50,000 for the three
organizations. Already
$10,000 has been raised,
Lobb said.
Gwen Devereaux,
recruitment leader with
AMGH, said with the dona-
tions it is able to take on
more local summer stu-
dents. Anne -Marie Thom-
son, YMCA's coordinator of
community recreation and
programs said the YMCA is
able to help over 700
children each year through
its Strong Kids campaign,
which has a goal to fund -
raise $70,000.
Hockey fans will be
excited to learn that NHL
players Cal and Ryan
O'Reilly and former NHL
player, Boyd Devereaux will
be on the ice.
Last year was at such a
high level that more NHL
players want to get in on
the action. Lobb estimates
the teams will comprise of
mostly NHL and former
NHL players.
No other rural area is
hosting this big of an event.
Both previous games have
sold out. People come from
all over the area to see their
favourite players during the
off-season, Lobb said.
Tickets are $10 for adults,
$5 for children and can be
purchased from Ben Lobb's
offices in Goderich and
Port Elgin, Gateway Centre
in Seaforth, AMGH gift
shop and the Goderich
YMCA. For more informa-
tion go to htheroes.ca.
