Brewery opens in Seaforth Shaun Gregory Huron Expositor Brewed in Seaforth's backyard is Half Hours on Earth, the new business had a light open March 26 where they showcased nine styles of craft beer for the locals to sample or purchase. On Seaforth's main avenue, down a flight of steel stairs, the "rustic" estab- lishment oper- ates around mas- sive canisters that at one point in time made mayonnaise for the Seaforth E.D. Smith, which eventually closed down in 2013. In a caged room, next to the vintage steel containers are much smaller barrels of fer- menting alcohol. Some will sit for weeks and oth- ers for months. Bags of grains are piled on the floor, fancy scientific glasses surround the tables. From afar you can tell somebody has perfected his or her craft, no pun intended. To be prepared for a cluster of customers, owner, Kyle Teichert, from Seaforth, 'brewed up a storm.' It's been about six years of creating several different types of personalized beers. He knew the beer business was something he could see him- self doing for years to come after winning first place in a Toronto brewing competition. After studying the trade and realizing how challenging it was to find abroad, Teichert, 31, decided to keep the love of making beer in his hometown of Seaforth. "I like the variety of beer in the States, we went there to get a lot of our beers and we couldn't find it here at the time," explained Teichert after serv- ing a line up of customers. "So that's why we started brewing here:' Like many in the nation, Teichert is following the flow of Craft beer which proceeds to be the fastest growing alcohol within the LCBO's beer category, growing yearly in the range of 20-30 per cent, according to Ontario Craft Brewers. Kristen Har- bur ar- bur n, 3 1, Teichert's signifi- cant other said beer connois- seurs had con- stantly been in and out. "It's been steady all day:' "We didn't want to advertise too much at the beginning, we are kind of figuring things out. We still need new stairs and a new door." For the time being, Half Hours on Earth will be open on Saturdays from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. And by next week an additional five flavors of beer will be available. I like the variety of beer in the States, we went there to get a lot of our beers and we couldn't find it here at the time," after serving a line up of customers.
