Fifty -acre farm in McKillop sold for $3,300 in 1887
March 18, 1887
• Mr. John Duffus has sold
his farm on the 8th conces-
sion of McKillop to his
neighbor Mr. Irwin Johnston
for the sum of $3,300. The
farm contains 50 acres.M
r. D u f f u s h a s purchased
from Mr. Wm. Barretta a
house and fi ve acres of land
in Winthrop for $900, and he
intends removing there to
live.
• A public examination of
the pupils of the school in
section no. 10 Tuckersmith,
was held on Friday. The
pupils were examined in the
several subjects by their
teacher Mr. Doig, as assisted
by Messrs. Dorrance, Hor-
ton, Shillinglaw, Latta,
Brown, Dallas, A. Scott, F.
Scott and Misses McTavish
and Wilson. The manner in
which the pupils answered
the several question refl ects
credit upon themselves and
also upon their teacher. Th e
people of the section in
order to show the lively
interest which they take, in
education, and to show their
appreciation of Mr. Doig as a
teacher, turned out in
crowds, their being in the
neighborhood of 150 visitors
present. Instrumental music
was provided by Messrs.
Horton, Stacey, and Miss
Elgie, while the vocal music
was provided by Mr.
Dobson, the Misses Dobson
and others. At the close of
the examination, the teach-
ers and the ratepayers pre-
sent expressed themselves
as being highly satisfied
with the general condition
of the school.

• Mr. Charles Routledge of
Tuckersmith has sold his
farm on the 3rd concession
Huron Road survey, to Mr.
Amos Townsend for $5, 300.

• Two sons of Mr. Samuel
ParsonsofUsborne
experienced a runaway on
Friday afternoon of last
week. They were dr iving a
colt hitched to a cutter, and
were going east on the Th
ames Road when the bit
broke, and losing control of
the horse they were thrown
out in front of Peter Moir's
gate. The horse ran on and
struck slam bang into at e a
mdrivenbyFredEller-
ington's hired man. In the
mix-up the horse got free
from the cutter, and turning
into Fred Hunkin's gateway
ran down the lane through
and over the snow bank
until it reached the woods at
the back of the farm. Th e
boys or horse were not
injured.
March 19, 1937
• A miscellaneous pre-
nuptial shower was held on
Monday evening March 16th
at the home of Mr. Henry
Forsythe in Egmondville,
when some 40 friends and
neighbors from the 8th and
9th concession of Tucker -
smith assembled in honor of
her daughter Miss Vera Eliz-
abeth Forsythe, whose mar-
riage to Mr. Wilfred Albert
Glazier of Clinton, Will take
place quietly on Wednesday,
March 24.
• Mr. Clarence Regele had
his collarbone broken on
Monday while working in
William Bennewies' bush,
when a limb struck him.
March 15, 1962
• A happy event took place
on Friday evening in the
church hall of First Presbyte-
rian church, when the mem-
bers of Session church
school teachers and officers,
presidents of the others
organizations of the church
and their wives or husbands
met to honor Malcolm McK-
ellar on his retirement, as
church school superinten-
dent after 27 years of faithful
and untiring service.
• Dublin's new Post Office
is taking shape as construc-
tion crews take advantage of
warmer weather to get the
building closed in. framing
is almost complete and brick
laying will commence in a
few days. The $20,000 build-
ing is being constructed by
Looby Construction of
Dublin.

11.75 per cent budget
increase for 1987, Huron
County Council has been
asked for budge cutting
direction from its executive

• Municipalities making
use of the Holmesville Land-
fill Site Committee to be
prepared to pay their por-
tion of substantial coast to

Administrator Larry McCabe
advised the committee in a
letter, that the 1987 prelimi-
narybudgetforthet
own o f Goderich includes
$220,000 for the operation of
the site and $50,000 for
studies required by the Min-
istry of Environment.
