Marcrest Manufac- turing is literally overcrowded in all areas of their business as production is booming for the Ethel Ont. agricultural conglomerate. Currently their 8,000 square footbuild- ing is not cutting it -they must expand immediately. Huron East council passed a zoning by-law on June 21, allowing them a permit to occupy an additional eight acres on the already existing property. The owners of Marcrest, Mark and Lena Horst have more than 10 full-time employees which are expected to cover about four times the area listed in the zoning by-law permits for home industries. With such an increase in workers, revenue and production, the current permit could no longer be issued, according to the Amendment Report prepared by the county. "This particular applica- tion allows for growth of agriculture use, (by) produc- ing farm machinery on the property," explained Huron County senior planner, Claire Dodds outside of the council chambers. "It's (a) bit of a balancing act protecting gravel deposits, per- mitting the livestock use and also permitting the expansion of the farm machinery." The company is entering into its 10th year of produc- tion and for some time now they've been able to sell 90 machines every 12 months. Shaun Gregory Huron County senior planner, Claire Dodds presented the Huron East council with a zoning by-law amendment relating to a multi-million dollar farming manufacturer June 21. Council approved an expansion that would help Marcrest Manufacturing Inc. build an additional 16,000 square foot building on their property. Their sales range from "developed" countries such as England, U.S., Australia, parts of Western Europe, and more recently Turkey and Saudi Arabia. This is a feat the company admitted to being rather proud of. Their flagship technical device is what Horst cites as "saving on labour and shipping costs" so farmers can get more bales into trailers. The machine also known as the Bale Baron packages small square bales, in bundles of 21, while also tying the bales together. It can run any- where from $90,000 up to $300,000. In less than an hour, the ultramodern piece of equipment is competent enough to fill a full size transport trailer with 800 bails. "Our production has expanded by almost 50 per cent within a half a year, that's why we need to do something about it," stated Horst, which means the company anticipates sales to reach their highest grosses of about $15 million . "We are bursting out the seams for room and space." Wednesday, June 29, 2016 • Huron Expositor 7 Mfick'•Ef F H.
