At the Brussels Legion June 16 the former Huron East Mayor Joe Seili had structured a con- gregation of roughly 40-50 "con- cerned" residents. The locals from the area talked about "property standards" among numerous other anxieties. One topic of conversation came up more than once and that was how the town of Brussels is shunned and treated differently in comparison to Seaforth, according to an article pub- lished by the Citizen June 23. "I received a phone call from one person and they said they had some concerns and then I asked if I could come up and meet them, I said absolutely," MacLellan responded June 21 to council when they questioned his motive of attending a get- together that some sources labeled as a "bashing." "I wasn't expecting a crowd, but anytime a ratepayer phones 1 wasn't expecting a crowd, but anytime a ratepayer phones up and says they want to meet with me, I'm going to put time aside and meet with them," — explained Huron East's Mayor, Bernie MacLellan up and says they want to meet with me, I'm going to put time aside and meet with them." To the mayor's defense, he explained to the ward represent- atives that he recently returned from holidays and confirmed the morning of the gathering he would be there. In hindsight, he declared once again, he had no prior knowledge that the Huron East council had not been informed or invited to the veter- an's establishment. As far as Grey Ward Coun. Diane Diehl's understanding is, Facebook advertised the alleged uncon- firmed meeting as a "meet the mayor,' specifically designed for uneasy locals to come forward and voice their opinions. "I think it's pretty low that the rest of council wasn't informed that they could be there," she said. The mayor responded back by saying he's not a member of the social media network known as Facebook and if anything was viral, he said he was not aware of it. At bi-weekly council meet- ings, making his presence known vocally, one of two Tuck- ersmith Ward councilors, Ray Chartrand seemed rather flus- tered. In regards to the confer- ence, he perceived it as a "secret meeting" and to the Egmond- ville resident, it seemed as if the mayor did not want the rest of the council there. "If you're going to build a cohesive team, that's not a very good way of doing it," Chartrand said. "As a mayor you would think you would want to have your councillors there:' MacLellan typed as many notes as he could during the meeting with his cell phone and brought Huron East CAO Brad Knight "up to speed." All pro- ceedings will be discussed at an administration meeting June 28 at Seaforth's historic town hall. ATTENTION ADVERTISERS!
