HomeMy WebLinkAboutHuron Expositor, 2016-06-22, Page 88 Huron Expositor • Wednesday, June 22, 2016 POLICE BRIEFS Female sexually assaulted on trail (SOUTH HURON, ON) — Last night a sexual assault took place on a public trail that lies between MacNaughton Park in Exeter and the Morrison Dam Conservation Area on Morrison Line. At around 6:30 p.m. an adult female had been out using the MacNaughton- Morrison Trail when she was attacked by a stranger from behind and sex- ually assaulted. The attacker fled the scene on a bicycle heading into Exeter. A short while later, Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) located and arrested a male suspect. The investigation continues how- ever at this time 19 -year-old, Mitch- ell WEBSTER from Exeter is facing two charges of Failing to Comply with Conditions of a Probation Order. The accused has since been released from custody. He has a court date scheduled for July 4, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice - Goderich. Over 80 and threat charges (HURON EAST, ON) —A 38 -year-old from Brussels is facing two crimi- nal charges and a speeding charge following a traffic stop that took place earlier this week in Brus- sels. Just before 9:00 p.m. on June 14, 2016 a Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) officer spot- ted a Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling northbound on Turn - berry Street at a speed in excess of the posted 50 km/h speed limit. A traffic stop was initiated and the driver was spoken to about his speed. While speaking with the driver the officer detected the odour of alcohol on the driver's breath. A roadside screening test was con- ducted and the driver registered a fail. He was placed under arrest for Drive a Motor Vehicle With Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol and was trans- ported to the Huron OPP Detach- ment for breath tests. He sub- sequently provided two samples of his breath to a qualified Intoxi- lizer Technician and both of his samples registered over the legal limit. Also, while in custody the driver threatened to cause physi- cal harm to the investigating officer. As a result, a 38 -year-old from Brus- sels has been charged with Drive a Motor Vehicle — Over 80 Milligrams of Alcohol, Utter Threats and Speeding. He has since been released from cus- tody with a court appearance sched- uled for July 4, 2016 at the Ontario Court of Justice — Goderich. He also received an automatic 90 -day driv- er's licence suspension and his vehi- cle was impounded for seven days. Transport trucks more common to cause multiple deaths (HURON COUNTY, ON) — Operation Corridor, a one -day enforcement and education initiative aimed at all com- mercial vehicle drivers to help keep Ontario roads safe was a considered a success for Huron County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). Five large commercial motor vehicles were sub- jected a thorough safety check. A full mechanical inspection on each vehicle and attached trailer was conducted. The OPP trained Commercial Motor Vehicle Inspector also checked for completed and up-to-date documen- tation of log books, pre -trip permits, licences and insurance certificates. All of the vehicles checked out in terms of safety. However, dur- ing an inspection in Wingham, the officer noted the transport truck driver had been drinking alco- hol. A roadside screening test was completed and the driver regis- tered a Warn Range suspension. As a result, a 51 -year-old male from Chesley was served with a 3 -day driver's licence suspension. -30- LET'S ALL DO OUR PART!
