Over 80 and
threat charges
(HURON EAST, ON) —A 38 -year-old
from Brussels is facing two crimi-
nal charges and a speeding charge
following a traffic stop that took
place earlier this week in Brus-
sels. Just before 9:00 p.m. on June
14, 2016 a Huron County Ontario
Provincial Police (OPP) officer spot-
ted a Chevrolet Silverado pickup
truck traveling northbound on Turn -
berry Street at a speed in excess of
the posted 50 km/h speed limit.
A traffic stop was initiated and the
driver was spoken to about his
speed. While speaking with the
driver the officer detected the odour
of alcohol on the driver's breath. A
roadside screening test was con-
ducted and the driver registered a
fail. He was placed under arrest for
Drive a Motor Vehicle With Over 80
Milligrams of Alcohol and was trans-
ported to the Huron OPP Detach-
ment for breath tests. He sub-
sequently provided two samples
of his breath to a qualified Intoxi-
lizer Technician and both of his
samples registered over the legal
limit. Also, while in custody the
driver threatened to cause physi-
cal harm to the investigating officer.
As a result, a 38 -year-old from Brus-
sels has been charged with Drive a
Motor Vehicle — Over 80 Milligrams of
Alcohol, Utter Threats and Speeding.
He has since been released from cus-
tody with a court appearance sched-
uled for July 4, 2016 at the Ontario
Court of Justice — Goderich. He also
received an automatic 90 -day driv-
er's licence suspension and his vehi-
cle was impounded for seven days.
Transport trucks more
common to cause
multiple deaths
(HURON COUNTY, ON) — Operation
Corridor, a one -day enforcement and
education initiative aimed at all com-
mercial vehicle drivers to help keep
Ontario roads safe was a considered
a success for Huron County Ontario
Provincial Police (OPP). Five large
commercial motor vehicles were sub-
jected a thorough safety check. A full
mechanical inspection on each vehicle
and attached trailer was conducted.
The OPP trained Commercial Motor
Vehicle Inspector also checked for
completed and up-to-date documen-
tation of log books, pre -trip permits,
licences and insurance certificates.
All of the vehicles checked out in
terms of safety. However, dur-
ing an inspection in Wingham, the
officer noted the transport truck
driver had been drinking alco-
hol. A roadside screening test was
completed and the driver regis-
tered a Warn Range suspension.
As a result, a 51 -year-old male
from Chesley was served with a
3 -day driver's licence suspension.
