CBC ready to put Vanastra back on the map

Tranquility surrounds the
community's environs,
which once housed thou-
sands and believed to be cel-
ebrated for an electronic
device that possibly stopped
Hitler's reign. For all those
citizens in the country who
are oblivious to the Village of
Vanastra, in less than two
weeks, a television broadcast
should very well educate
those concepts relating to its
unfamiliarity.
From 1940-1950 are pro-
jected to be one of the most
notable decades of continu-
ity for Canada and specifi-
cally speaking -1941. Heaps
of history clashed that year,
including the inauguration
of two larger than life organi-
zations -CBC and the coun-
try's first radar school.
It's been 75 years since
then and near the closing
days of this month, once
again, the two are antici-
pated to share something
exceptional.
This time around, CBC is
the storyteller and Vanastra
will be the tale. In their sec-
ond season, Still Standing, is
set to air on national televi-
sion, with the upcoming sec-
ond episode titled "It's
Vanastra's Time to Shine." If
the analytics can reasonably
relate to CBC's 2010 num-
bers, in which each month
saw on average 5.8 million
unique viewers, there might
possibly be thousands upon
thou- sands who will learn
about the community that's
not even a 15 -minute drive
from Seaforth.
Back in February, close to
350 people from Huron East
and the surrounding areas
packed the Vanastra Com-
munity Christian Reformed
Church for the live filming of
Still Standing.
Jan Hawley, the economic
development officer for
Huron East, has kept in con-
tact with the producers of
the show. They told her the
turnout was unexpected.
"They were expecting
60-70 people," she said in an
interview at her office June 8.
She then giggled. "It was
standing room for Still
Standing:'
Recently, Hawley received
the details of when the show
would air and instantly she
shared the information on
Facebook. The post went
viral with 280 shares in less
than 48 hours. One com-
ment caught her attention.
"No one knew who you were
before the show, they cer-
tainly are going to know who

A week before the official
airing, through the contact of
CBC and Hawley, a trailer or
what the producers call a
"digital postcard" is set to be
available, which Hawley said
will be broadcasted over
Facebook.
Featured in the episode is
94 -year-old, Fred Anderson,
who recently lived in the Vil-
lage of Vanastra, as well as
one of thousands responsi-
ble for building the top-
secret army radar base. Due
to some setbacks involving
his legs, the wise decision
was made by his family to
move him to the Maplewood
Manor in Seaforth.
"He's going to be a movie
star, "Hawley said.
Upon realizing this would
be beneficial for not only
Anderson, but also the com-
munity, Hawley talked to the
owner and manager of the
retirement home and
requested the live broadcast
of Still Standing be played
there.
The feedback came back
all positive. As a result on
June 21, Hawley
