Live sing -along for the kids at the Seaforth library

In an extensive 22 -year
road, Paul Droog has
recorded a few cassettes,
followed by a couple CD's.
He has also written and
recorded about 40 chil-
dren's songs -he came to
Seaforth to perform for the
locals.
The youth bunched in
Seaforth's Library, Droog
equipped with an acoustic
guitar and for sound quality
purposes, the award-win-
ning Bose L1 Model II Sys-
tem surrounded the stage.
It was evident from the
start that the St Marys' native
knew how to entertain a
younger crowd. He only
asked that the kids stay away
from the stage, just so
nobody fell over the cords
connected to the $5,000
piece of technology. Besides
that, he let the kids be kids -
he gave them the option to
dance, sing, stand-up or
pretty much do what they
wanted.
"Kids get a lot of sound
bytes today, it's very fast
paced, everything is very
quick and temporary," Droog
said after the 45 -minute
show that was free of charge
July 12.
"This gives them some-
thing a little more tangible, a
bit of a bridge to some of the
things that previous genera-
tions did."
"Where you did a lot of
rhyming songs and games
with songs."
In the1990's-2000's his live
performances were more of
a full-time gig; all across
Southwestern Ontario Droog
would travel. With the way
technology has shifted dec-
ades later, the urgency faded
in that business aspect. Now,
Droog calls it more of a,
"March Break, summer
passion."
"CD technology was just
starting to come in 1994,
when I recorded the first
project. Back then we
thought of vehicles,"
explained Droog.
"Where are the kids going
to be listening to it? In their
Fisher Price cassette players
and in their vehicles."
Reaching Seaforth terri-
tory, it was Droog's sev-
enth performance since
July 1. By the end of sum-
mer, after an extensive
road trip to other local
libraries, he plans to
record a new CD with all of
his most current tracks, all
of which he wrote and
recorded himself.
