Kincardine's Stoney Island Conservation
Area to host Ski Loppet, Snowshoeing events,
followed by in -town Toboggan Gran Prix
If the snow holds out this
weekend and next, two
Stoney Island Conserva-
tion Area events will draw
dozens of people for skiing
and snowshoeing Jan. 16
and 24.
And on Jan. 30, 2016 the
Kincardine Kids Toboggan
Grand Prix will offer a
chance at a new fun winter
event for families.
The three events are all
weather -dependent, and
any changes in date or
condition will be reported
on Kincardine Tourism's
and Penetangear's face -
book pages.
The Kincardine Commu-
nity Loppet is planned for
Saturday, Jan. 16 at 2 p.m.
The free event is
designed for cross-country
skiers of all ages and expe-
rience levels. Vistors are
invited to take a leisurely
ski around the groomed
trails at Stoney Island, led
by Kincardine Cross -
Country Ski Club experts,
who will be there to help.
After the tour warm
enjoy a free hot apple cider
or hot chocolate to warm
up in front of a fire in the
club's hut.
Participants are asked to
bring their own equip-
ment, or borrow a pair of
skis and boots from the
club.

Stoney Island Conserva-
tion Area, 5 km north of
Kincardine on Bruce Road

The Penetangear Com-
munity Snowshoe event
takes place Sunday, Jan.
24, 2015 at 2 p.m.
Participants are wel-
come to grab their snow-
shoes and come out to
Stoney Island and enjoy
the snow. The free event is
for all ages and all experi-
ence levels.
Snowshoers will tour
around Stoney Islands
dedicated snow shoe trails,
with guidance from
experts from the Kincar-
dine Cross -Country Ski
Club.
Warm up in the club's
hut with hot cider and hot
chocolate in front of the
fire after the event, spon-
sored by Penetangear -
Kincardine's Casual, Out-
door and Active store.
The event is also located
at Stoney Island Conserva-
tion Area, 5 km north of
Kincardine on Bruce Road

A new event, the Pene-
tangear Kids Toboggan
Gran Prix will offer fun,
competition and prizes for
the whole family on Satur-
day, Jan. 30 at 11 a.m.
Children are invited
down to Alps Park on the
Kincardine Trails System
for a 'toboggan race to
remember.'
Participants are asked to
register at Penetangear 791
Queen Street Kincardine
by Jan. 28 and bring their
fastest toboggan to the
race, for a chance to be
crowned king or queen of
the hill for their age
groups.
McDonald's Kincardine
will be giving out treats as
a sponsor, alongside
Penetangear.

January 30th
The event is located at
Alps Park Kincardine
Trails, pm Milne Drive in
Kincardine (eastern corner
of Kingsway Street and
Milne Drive), with parking
on the street.

Huron East Fire Dept. Receives much needed funding
The Trillium ROOTS Com-
munity Fund is pleased to
support the Huron East Fire
Departmentin the amount of
$10,000.00.
The Brussels Station is a
volunteer department that
serves the Village of Brus-
sels and the surrounding
farming community within
the Municipality of Huron
East and Morris-Turnberry.
This donation will assist
greatly with the purchase
of essential lifesaving
equipment for the depart-
ment. The Trillium ROOTS
Community Fund was
established by Trillium
Mutual Insurance Com-
pany in Listowel, to admin-
ister (at arm's length), the
company's philanthropy
program. Through ROOTS,
Trillium continues to pro-
vide meaningful financial
assistance and support to
rural communities in
which its policyholder
members live and serve.
The company announced
in early 2015 that up to
$240,000 would be availa-
ble for capital projects,
with a focus in the areas of
Healthcare, Recreation &
Wellness, Emergency
Response (Fire Fighters),
Agricultural and Eco/Sus-
tainability. More informa-
