Times have changed. This year the 24 -year-old is sporting a Buffalo Sabres pullover and is enjoying an epic season, as he gets ready to depart for Nashville to compete in the 2016 Honda NHL All-Star Game. The assistant captain and leading scorer of the Sabres is en route to hav- ing aving the statistically best year in his professional hockey career. In 44 games played in the 2015-2016 season the center man has managed to put 17 goals in the net, followed by 20 helpers (assists). Not too shabby seeing as O'Reilly only had 17 goals and 38 assists in 82 games last year when he played for the Colorado Avalanche. The upstate New York trade to save cap space was made by the Ava- lanche's GM Joe Sakic and led to acquiring defenseman Nikita Zadorov, forwards Mikhail Grigorenko and J.T. Compher, and the No. 31 pick in the draft in exchange for O'Reilly and forward Jamie McGinn. So what's sparked this goal -scoring spree for the 210 -pounder from Huron County? Perhaps, the seven-year extension worth approximately $52.5 million with aver- age annual earnings of $7.5 million is motivating AA Brian admitted the supe- riority of hockey his youngest son is produc- ing in the NHL, more specifically his invitation to the All-Star Game, is something he did not fathom. "No, you never kind of see those things coming, he's pretty amazing, he's worked hard;" he said. "He deserves what he gets, a lot of hours, a lot of peoples support, it's wonderful to get that He works his butt off, he's always been a kid who finds ways to get better and never settles," — stated O'Reilly's father Brian O'Reilly. this top -20 in the league numbers. O'Reilly's mother Bon- nie was one of the first to hear the news her son made the All-Star team, she said by the tone of his voice when he called she knew how much this meant to him. She and Brian, from Varna, Ont. will book a flight to Nash- ville for the weekend of O'Reilly's game. Theywill then head to Syracuse a day later to watch their Corbin Marshall was hot in net but couldn't hold off the speed of the Blyth Bullets. Even after a few hard shots on net by Seaforth players, they couldn't manage to get any past the Blyth goalie. On January 13 the Seaforth Atom 2 took on Blyth. Seaforth came out on top 2-1. Ethan Blake and Alex oldest son Cal O'Reilly take part in the 2016 Toy- ota AHL All-Star Chal- lenge where he will be representing the Roches- ter Americans, the farm team for the Sabres. Cal signed a one-way, two- year NHL contract as a free agent with the Sabres July3 of 2015, which sub- sequently resulted with both of the O'Reilly brothers playing a couple games together this year. "We watched them play against each other, to have them both play on the same team and to be part of Buffalo, which is such a great organiza- tion," Brian told the Expositor during a phone interview. "We're thrilled that they're there:' The two left handed O'Reillys who both play center originate from a rather devoted bloodline of athletics, Bonnie was named Athlete of the Year at Ryerson Univer- sity on numerous occa- sions according to Brian.
