It seems like it was just
yesterday that Ryan
O'Reilly was wearing a
green Seaforth Stars jer-
sey. Times have changed.
This year the 24 -year-old
is sporting a Buffalo
Sabres pullover and is
enjoying an epic season,
as he gets ready to depart
for Nashville to compete
in the 2016 Honda NHL
All-Star Game.
The assistant captain
and leading scorer of the
Sabres is en route to hav-
ing
aving the statistically best
year in his professional
hockey career.
In 44 games played in
the 2015-2016 season the
center man has managed
to put 17 goals in the net,
followed by 20 helpers
(assists). Not too shabby
seeing as O'Reilly only
had 17 goals and 38
assists in 82 games last
year when he played for
the Colorado Avalanche.
The upstate New York
trade to save cap space
was made by the Ava-
lanche's GM Joe Sakic
and led to acquiring
defenseman Nikita
Zadorov, forwards
Mikhail Grigorenko and
J.T. Compher, and the No.
31 pick in the draft in
exchange for O'Reilly and
forward Jamie McGinn.
So what's sparked this
goal -scoring spree for the
210 -pounder from Huron
County? Perhaps, the
seven-year extension
worth approximately
$52.5 million with aver-
age annual earnings of
$7.5 million is motivating

specifically his invitation
to the All-Star Game, is
something he did not
fathom.
"No, you never kind of
see those things coming,
he's pretty amazing, he's
worked hard;" he said.

representing the Roches-

team for the Sabres. Cal
signed a one-way, two-
year NHL contract as a
free agent with the Sabres

sequently resulted with
both of the O'Reilly
brothers playing a couple
games together this year.
"We watched them
play against each other, to
have them both play on
the same team and to be
part of Buffalo, which is
such a great organiza-

interview.

Their grandfather Jackie
O'Reilly also made his
mark in professional
sports by playing on the
national soccer team of
Ireland.

family, sports is some-
thing we always put an
emphasis on," com-
mented Brian. "I think
