Exeter Seaforth U19AA Provincial Ringette Step up their game

Exeter Seaforth U19AA
Provincial ringette team
stepped up their play this
past weekend in the
Cambridge Ringette
Tournament and came
inches away from making
the Championship Final.
The locals finished with 2
wins, 1 tie and a loss in
round robin play, to end
up in forth place of ten
teams to advance to the
semi against first place
Winnipeg, Manitoba
"Angels".
The early morning
semi final found the
locals a little sluggish at
the first whistle and
within the first couple
shifts they were down
one and fighting hard to
match the fast Angels.
Exeter Seaforth got in
control of their play and
challenged the Angels in
both the offensive and
defensive ends. Amanda
Hodgert started a scoring
play making a sharp pass
to Rachelle Keys who
connected cross crease
with Avery Wedow for the
locals equalizing first
half goal. Celebrations
were short as the Angels
charged back to go back
on top.
With a halftime break
and a pep talk from
coach Lindsey Vivian,
the locals continued to
attack, but the Angels'
offence picked the top
corner to take a 3-1
lead. Not giving up Keys
made a great pass and
Hodgert netted the ring
to come within one with
14:36 to play. Fast end-
to-end gritty play filled
the late part of the half.
With the goaltender on
the bench for the extra
attacker Keys slammed
the ring into the mesh
with Wedow and Hodg-
ert assisting to tie the
game with 1:54 on the
clock. Exeter Seaforth
had a couple great
opportunities to win but
the Angels goaltender
came up with the saves
to send the game into
Sudden Victory

Overtime. OT was short
with the Angels offence
scoring within the first
minute.
In round robin Game 1,
the locals lost 5-3 to
Guelph. The team played
well and made some
great offence attacks with
Hodgert netting 2 and
Alyssa Vanderkuylen a
single, Wedow recorded
three assists, Keys 2 and
Hodgert one.
Game 2, Exeter Sea -
forth matched Rive Sud
2-2 in a very fast end-to-
end game.
Goaltender Kendra
Nesbitt had her best per-
formance of the season
turning away countless
rings throughout the
forty minutes of play.
Wedow and Keys each
scored singles, Hailey
Wietersen, Wedow and
Christine Leach added
assists.
Game 3 was the first
tournament win since
November, 3-2 over City
of Ottawa.
The local defence was
stellar blocking a number
of shots and shutting
down the Ottawa attack.
Wedow was successful
with two goals in the first
with Hodgert helping on
both and Wietersen on
one. Maddie Cormier
netted the game winner
was two minutes to play
on a relay pass from
Amanda Verbeke and
Hodgert.
Game 4 was a 5-2 win
over Montreal Mission.
The first half ended 2-2
with
Cormier and Hodgert
netting singles with Rea-
gan Vandewalle and
Wedow helping. Strong
team play held Montreal
off the score board for
the second half while
Wedow, Jessica Quinn
and Verbeke each added
a goal.
Hodgert, Keys, Wedow,
Vandewalle, and Cormier
got assists.
Exeter Seaforth U19AA
Provincial ringette return
to league play Saturday
in
Guelph.
