Some might feel the Huron
East Centenaires who are
memorable for their green and
bright yellow colours may have
a shade of blue to add to those
jerseys, but that's not the case,
dispirited is just the opposite
that this team is feeling.
On February 13, the Cents
ended up being swept in the
first round of the WOAA Senior
AA Hockey League playoffs by
the Clinton Radars losing 9-2.
Being the underdog, the Cents
fought hard in a battle with a
team that has only managed to
lose twice in the regular season
and both of those loses were
thanks to the Cents. They
played a physical game with
hard checking and solid goal-
tending, but the goal scoring
capabilities of the three Radars
forwards, Tyler Doig, Kurtis
Bartliff and Sean Consitt were
just too much for the Cents to
handle. The trio ended up net-
ting a total of 17 goals in four
games.
"Clinton is a talented team,
you have to tip your hat off to
them. They have experience,
quality players and good
coaching. They are just good
all around," explained the head
coach of the Huron East Cen-
tenaires, Mark Wilson.
"Teams that are that good
are going to capitalize and it's a
learning curve for everybody:'
Wilson is entering his first
year with the team; the long-
time Seaforth resident said the
boys have come a long way
especially considering that last
year the Cents managed to
skate away with only a single
victory. It's been about 12
months since they were
shunned from making an
appearance in the AA playoffs
with a 1-21 record. Between
the change over from the
Goderich Pirates and the move
to Seaforth, the hockey club
had been triumphant seven
times in the last four years,
before this current season.
"With one year experience
under their belt and going
against a team like Clinton in
the playoffs, they now know
what it takes to win," men-
tioned Wilson in a recent inter-
view. "Sometimes you have to
lose to learn how to win:'

"I think we went into this
first round thinking that it was
going to be very tough," said
Merritt, who is fifth in the
league in points with 20 goals
and 26 assists.
"Next year, we need to go in
with the mentality that we can
