Huron Expositor, 2016-02-10, Page 1010 Huron Expositor • Wednesday, February 10, 2016 POLICE BRIEFS A costly test drive Huron East — A 24 -year-old male driver from Huron East has been charged with several offences after he was stopped test driving an ATV on Jan. 30. The alleged incident took place at about 2:20 a.m. as OPP officers were patrol- ling in Vanastra when they spotted an ATV travelling west on Seventh Avenue. Officers pulled up alongside the hel- metless driver and pulled him over. According to police, the driver stated he had been working on the machine and was just taking it out for a quick test drive. Officers pointed out to the driver that he wasn't wearing a hel- met and the machine wasn't properly plated. Upon speaking with the driver, police also noted the driver had been drinking alcohol. A roadside screening test was provided and the driver regis- tered a quantity of alcohol above zero, which is a violation for a novice driver. Further investigation revealed the driver held a suspended driver's licence and the ATV was uninsured. In addi- tion, police learned the driver was currently serving a probation sen- tence with a condition to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. Novice driver charged with several offences Huron East—A novice driver has been charged with several traffic violations after he was stopped by police on Jan. 30 in Seaforth. The alleged incident took place at about 12:25 a.m. when officers spotted a car pull up to an intersection. According to officers, the front plate was not attached to the vehicle so a traffic stop was initiated. According to police, the officers detected the driver had been drinking alcohol when speaking with the driver. A road- side screening test was performed and the driver registered a sample above zero. Further investigation revealed the driver did not have a permit for the vehi- cle, the vehicle was not plated and the motor vehicle was uninsured. The accused has been charged multiple offences.
