POLICE BRIEFS
A costly test drive
Huron East — A 24 -year-old male driver
from Huron East has been charged with
several offences after he was stopped
test driving an ATV on Jan. 30. The
alleged incident took place at about
2:20 a.m. as OPP officers were patrol-
ling in Vanastra when they spotted an
ATV travelling west on Seventh Avenue.
Officers pulled up alongside the hel-
metless driver and pulled him over.
According to police, the driver stated
he had been working on the machine
and was just taking it out for a quick
test drive. Officers pointed out to the
driver that he wasn't wearing a hel-
met and the machine wasn't properly
plated. Upon speaking with the driver,
police also noted the driver had been
drinking alcohol. A roadside screening
test was provided and the driver regis-
tered a quantity of alcohol above zero,
which is a violation for a novice driver.
Further investigation revealed the
driver held a suspended driver's licence
and the ATV was uninsured. In addi-
tion, police learned the driver was
currently serving a probation sen-
tence with a condition to keep the
peace and be of good behaviour.
