Thanks to the meticulous work of McNeil and the welding of Peter Gray the Ainleyville sign is ready to return back to the Brussels library property. "Peter was good enough to take some time and weld it up after it got knocked off," McNeil said at the Huron East council meeting on Feb. 1. "He did a very good, special job of welding that thing. That's pretty precious material." In additional to weather the sign was also damaged when someone on a lawn mower knocked it down, McNeil said. McNeil has been retired for six years from auto body restoration but took on the job of sign repair in Gray's Brussels shop last October. "It's a piece of Brussels history," McNeil said. "I worked it just the same as my trade." When McNeil was at the point of put- ting the lettering back on he requested to be able to replace the "E" in Ainley- ville to an 'A" - the proper spelling but his request was denied. McNeil estimated he spent 54 hours on the project and spent just over $84 on materials. He requested that council cover the expenses so he could "have a little beer money:' Huron East Mayor Bernie MacLellan said he was thankful to McNeil for tak- ing the initiative. "We are very proud of (the sign) and we'd be very happy to put it back on the library property," MacLellan said. Huron East approves $18,400 in grant requests and Morris-Tumberry. HURON COUNTY COUNCIL BRIEFS Coalition for Huron Injury Prevention The Coalition for Huron Injury Preven- tion (CHIP) has asked Huron County for $5,000 to continue its activities in 2016. Community safety officer Jamie Stan- ley and public health promoter Laura Armstrong made the request on the basis that CHIP needs municipal sup- port in order to obtain a grant from the Ministry of Transportation. Last year, there were a total of 1,055 col- lisions, which included 138 personal injury collisions. There were 13 fatal col- lisions and 14 people killed, which is up from the previous year, Stanley said. CHIP has a yearly budget of $15,000 that goes towards programs like elec- tronic speed sign hailers, pedestrian safety campaigns, safe driving for seniors Basses and distracted driving education. Council deferred the decision to the 2016 budget discussions.
